Why the bully story matters;

I don't think it's any more relevant to the election than Obama's dog eating. Which is to say, not relevant at all. But I don't want to hear complaints about "digging" when Rs throw around ridiculousness like birth certificates and (gasp) Kenyan relatives and whether Obama participated in a protest in college.

If I had sons I would wonder WTH I had done wrong if I had one who helped hold down another child and cut off his hair. But I guess it was a different world back then? These kinds of things were shrugged off. Now the bully would go to jail for assault I am sure.

I do wonder what kind of a person would do something like that. High school is pretty late in the school career - personality is pretty much formed by then. This coupled with the decision to put the dog on the roof makes me wonder what kind of person this is we're talking about here.

But, not enough to be relevant to the election. Not enough to sway anyone, either way.

And Obama admitted in his book that he shoved a girl in middle school. Where is the 5,000 word Washington Post article on that? Yes, Mitt was a few years older; he also didn't pick on a girl. This dog ain't gonna hunt for the Dems. Woof, woof, Mr. Steele.

Only a conservative wingnut would need the Washington Post to "uncover" a story contained in the President's own biography. The whole Dog thing took them over 4 years to find.

as oppose to adding bullshit to emphasize the point why dont you just say the family knows nothing about the guy being bullied AND that they are not happy that his name and the episode is being used for political purposes.

they never claimed it was made up. just that they never heard of it.

the bigger point is that the family doesnt like his name being put out there for some political gain especially considering that he is no longer alive. end of story.

What makes you think the story is fabricated? There are five witnesses. Bullied children often don't tell their families about the bullying.

As for Obama, the incident occurred when he was ten. He "slightly shoved" a girl on the playground. Here is how he describes the aftermath of that shove:

"For the rest of the afternoon, i was haunted by the look on Coretta's face just before she had started to run... I'd been tested and found wanting." He later calls it an "act of betrayal."

So, writing approximately 15 years after the incident, Obama still remembered feeling haunted and understood that what he did was wrong. He obviously felt regret. There is no hedging about not remembering, or questioning details of the allegation. He owned up to and learned from his mistake. One would wish that Romney had even half as much character.

I forgot to mention Obama's youthful indiscretions, but I suppose those who are ready to skewer Romney can excuse away Obama's actions of youth. The whole issue is a political maneuvering by the media and it should disgust anyone who believes that the media should not be in the business of electing a president.
