I jump on 66 to the toll road/greenway. I never hit traffic. It’s expensive, but 35-40 minutes door-to-door.
I have no idea what morning commute would be since I am usually heading out between 5 and 5:30.

I take Rt. 7 to Lewinsville Rd to Dolley Madison to GWPKWY to 50. If I leave later than 6:30, it is slower but if I am out of the driveway by then, it's generally fine.
The reverse is GWPKWY to GT Pike to Rt. 7. I leave work at 4 and I'm in my driveway by 5pm.

the commuter bus from Leesburg looks like a good option,
driving if I go in around 6 and leave by 3 looks good, biking 3 hours looks good if I only plan on working 4 hours, but does anyone know what it's like taking the metro in from as far out as possible?
I understand that most people recommend living closer in but I'm willing to sacrifice a longer commute to have my large family in a more comfortable daily setting.
Wouldn’t your “large family” aka non-working wife with lots of kids like to see you during the work week more than they need a big house? My husband has dinner with us at 6 every night because of his reasonable commute.

Leesburg-He drove to a lot and took the bus.
Ashburn- 1st Drove to Falls Church metro station until Weihle Metro station opened.
Plan on factoring in the toll road to expenses.
He was miserable every night when he came home.
A new metro stop should be opening in Ashburn in the next 2-3 years, I would follow that timeline closely when making the decision to move.
I keep telling myself that but don't believe it will be that soon.
BTW there have been road extensions around Ashburn that have made it easier to avoid the toll road.

Anonymous wrote:^ you jest but people who live in exurbs tend to reverse-"fish was this big" just how far out they are. I once had some guy in Ashburn tell me it takes him 30 minutes to get into the city. Sure, maybe with a helicopter.
