GMU's past reputation is hard to get rid off. There will always be people who remember it as a "commuter" school or a school where you went to as a last resort. GMU is trying very hard to change the perception. If you haven't been on campus lately, you should vist.
UVA is clearly number one. C of W &M is clearly number two. After that, it is becoming a toss up and program-dependent. I think Tech's desireability among students has dropped since the shootings. DD who is an in-state junior refuses to even visit for that reason, and some of her friends feel the same way. Meanwhile both JMU and GMU have both made great strides in reputation lately. A lot has to do with the individual programs at each school and not such-and-such a school is #4 or #5 in Virginia.
Nonsense. The battle between 4 and 5 is between Tech and GMU. JMU actually more consistently comes up as the best ranking of the three. Even UMW is more selective than VT...

Anonymous wrote:I wouldnT be quick to rate vt as a league above jmu or even for that matter gmu. The question of who is 4 or 5 is probably about gum and tech because The rankings suggest jmu is marginally better respected than vt and vt is marginally better respected than gmu.
