My DD is named Gemma. Her grandfather, bless 'is heart, pronounces it with a hard-G (as in Get), which means that all his relatives and friends also say G-emma. My mother is constantly correcting him, as am I, but we all know he's never going to get it right. Which kind of amuses me.
She's screwed anyway. Her full name is Gemma Clare Funnylongitalianname-Funnyshortname. I'm thinking it's kind of like naming a boy "Sue" -- she'll develop strong character (even if she never learns to spell).
