I was the 9/27 poster...since the govt did shut down....any decision has got to be delayed even months correct? So should I follow up? Wait it out? Move on?

They say they want a decision to me made by that day. I applied for a position at a regional office. The position. Closed in may. I got the referral letter in July. They called to do the interview at the end of Aug. It was with 3 people. Laid back. They called a week later for a 2nd interview. Almost 3 weeks has passed. I havent heard back. Granted there is a potential govt shutdown on the horizon but does this matter? I know the hiring process is extensive but I would think after a second interview I would hear either a ya or nay?

Follow up on Monday.

Reviving the thread for a slightly different purpose - does anyone have any insight on career tracks once someone has joined the SEC? Do a lot of people move between Divisions? Move to DOJ? Is it hard to move from a non-Enforcement Division into Enforcement? It seems like there's a lot of turnover in the agency, I'm curious what people have gone on to do and if it seems to depend on which Division you start out in.

Did they call? And, how was the outcome? In my situation, they have not called (after my interview in April) me back. It is already mid of June so I think I am not the top candidate. And, I am moving on and right now I am applying to other jobs.

For the references, no, it was an e-mail request from their HR dept. The offer came about 2 weeks after I submitted my references.

There is no negotiation of salary. The offer will be based on your current salary, but it us what it is. You can try to negotiate for faster accrual if vacation time.

Post 04/30/2013 08:24     Subject: Re:How long does the SEC's hiring process take?

I have a question to all who had a job interview with SEC. Were you all asked for the reference? In January (2013), I applied for the examiner position in DC. A week after the job closing, my application was rejected - saying that I was qualified but not selected for the next step. So, I moved on with it and started looking for the job at other agencies. Then, 4 months later (April), I got a surprising call from a chief manager for an interview. I went for the interview, it was very a professional interview, and all interviewers were very well prepared. Most of the questions that they asked me were if my current job is relevant to the examiner job. Other questions were to see if I am fine with tasks for the examiner that I am currently not doing. I honestly admitted that I have not been flowing SEC new regulations after the financial market crush which affects the examiner job. I am not sure if it was a good interview – it is hard to tell. The big concern that I have now, is that they have not asked me for the references when I had the interview and after it. From my past job hunt experiences, this means that I did not get the job. Have any of you had not been asked for the reference? If not, what experience do you have that you can share? Thank you in advance.

I understand that they are hiring contractors, but contractors cannot do inherently govt functions such as clearacne adjudications. I wonder how much of an impact sequestration has had on the SEC as a whole?

They're hiring contractors instead of permanent employees.

Does anyone have any intel on the SEC Office of Support Services: HR, FOIA, Security, etc? I know that some of the vacancies under this group have been open for a long time. Wondering what the issues are?

^^
Doesn't surprise me one bit. I worked at NASD (where a lot of the current SEC leadership came from) many moons ago and the culture there stunk as well.
