I saw this and thought of this thread. Don't know if it has any good ideas for you personally, but these are options.

Since I only needed 2 days of aftercare for my daughter, I found a woman who runs an in-home daycare in my neighborhood who also picks up kids afterschool. Half the price of having a center pick her up on a bus and she gets to spend some time with babies and toddlers, which is nice since she's currently an only child.

I was in in-home daycares as a child with moms who had their kids with them. I never felt like I got the short end of the stick. If I had the patience for it, I would do this to make money. But, alas, I am NOT the type of person who could do this day in and day out.

If you can handle one or two more kids in your home (or you could travel to someone else's - check the nanny listings) and licensing isn't a huge issue, I am pretty sure you could find someone willing to use your services. People have their preferences for care - center, in-home, nanny, etc.

I think I'm interested in doing this next school year. Does anyone know what things are necessary to start this:

-Do I need a childcare license?
-I rent my SFH..do I have to own?

Depends on your county. In mine you need to be licensed if you care for more than 5 kids (your own children excluded)

Insurance is optional.

Good god I wish a mom in my school did this. I think there is probably a huge demand. In my area, aftercare cost around $400/mo, at 5 kids, that could be an extra 2k in monthly income....maybe I need to quit my job!!

fairfax county allows parents to sign an insurance waiver - they ask for copies when they do inspections - pretty standard there. dont know about dc
