It would be great to win anything under 5 million...ummm maybe 10M..no more! no more!

Many lottery winners have had their lives destroyed by their new found fortune. Many have gone bankrupt and had other terrible things happen because of the money. If not you, then your heirs who inherit the money.

I always wonder why that is. Poor money-management skills?

It's not like the vast majority of lottery winners have experience managing significant sums of money.

I like this idea - I'd start tipping 100% at reataurants for good service; 200% for great service.

Although this may provide some insight into why so many lottery winners ultimately file for bankruptcy.

I would send anonymous bundles of, say, $10,000 to the 8 or 10 people who have made a huge difference in my life over the years. I'm out of contact with most of them, so they would have no idea where it came from. That would be so fun.
And then I would buy a piece of Montana and get my pilots license so I can fly back and forth. I would also get a personal assistant and a full time, live in maid. My kids, my husband and I really need a full time maid!

So glad they are holding off my winning until Friday. Gives me the weekend to get my accountant, lawyer, blind trust lined up.

I would donate to political parties in relatives' states to help relatives get better jobs. Think being better at fishing with self-caught, larger fish improving lifetime income stream and self-sufficiency would be better than direct, one-time gifts from my lottery winnings.

I would set aside $ for retirement and kids' college. Then I would give lump sums to all immediate family members. I would give smaller sums to some extended family who could really use it. i would also give some money to former nanny as well as send her three children to college. Would look into how much it takes to start a family foundation. And take some trips, etc!

I'm going to stop being ashamed to live in DC... Because I'll be living in Turks, Amalfi, and Ibiza

Take amazing trips. Hire a house manager. Maybe buy a boat. Give lots to charity. Stash some to take care of parents and in-laws when they need it.

Anonymous wrote:I remember recently someone went through a trust or something after they won Powerball or Megamillions and refused to come forward with their name and the lottery authorities basically said they wouldn't accept a winner without a name, but then I never heard anything else.

Is it actually possible to win and not have the world know so that the crazies don't come after you?

Different state lotteries have different rules for claiming prizes. In Virginia, you have to agree to let them release your "likeness" (photo), name and city. Delaware lets you have the option of claiming anonymously. A blind trust is the way to go if your state lottery allows it.

I've always wondered if it would be worth changing my name to accept a prize or hide after winning.

If I won the lottery I would...

-Finish out the school year working with my kids. I work in a very low performing charter school and there's no way could leave my kids mid-year

-Take a much more lavish spring break trip than I had planned! Definitely to Brazil. Or Spain. Or Australia. Or China.

-Buy 3 houses. One for me in DC, one for my mom and one for my sister.

-Pay off student loans

-Once summer started - travel. Indefinitely. Lavishly. Frugally. Adventurously.
