Plan to fully pay DD's student loans, but she doesn't know it.

Started with about $70k, now down to about $55k all from my graduate degree plus living expenses. Consolidated most of them at 3.25%, so just pay the minimums. Earn $106k.

Owed $78K. Salary at that time was $41K. Now owe $60. Combined undergrad and law school debt. Salary is $105K. I consolidated at the right time and have a stupid low rate of 2.3%, so I'm not in a big hurry to pay them off, though it would be nice to have them gone.

Never take out more than what you think you will earn in your first year of work as a graduate.
I owed half of first year salary. At the time I thought it was a lot

Why? Because they can make a good salary without student loans and/or having gone to grad school??

FWIW, I also don't have any student loans (went in-state to UVa), no grad school (but I do have a CPA), and make around 150 (base and bonus). Am I also an a**?

Undergrad only- owe $13K now, orignally $24K.

Make $100K.

Shocks me at the huge sums people have borrowed to finance their education, and many don't even break six-figure salaries..

I have none, my husband still has $20K, down from $100K+ after graduating law school. We are chipping away at it but the rate is super low so it's not really a priority. HHI $300K.

I had $120,000in undergrad and grad/law school loans. Undergrad loans were deferred until I graduated law school. When I graduated the rates wer insanely high, over 8% and higher for the private loans. I busted ass to pay them al, off within 6 years. I consolidated all the public loans and paid the private ones off first, highest rate taking priority. During those 6 years I made between $75,000 and $250,000, changing jobs twice. I lived with my fiancé who became my husband and he has always made more than me so we were DINK. We had no credit card debt and he had no student loans. We bought one used car. We focused all extra money on paying down my debt, but our combined income allowed for us to live in a nice apartment and then buy a nice starter home in NOVA. To me getting rid of tht student loan debt was a HUGE priority to me. Some people like taking extravagant vacations, want a Rolex watch or Hermes bag, drive a BMW, have the latest and greatest iPhone, have all custom made furniture, etc. that wasn't me, I needed to pay that debt, and I stayed in some less than fulfilling job because of the salary allowing me to pay my debts.

Owe a little over 20k, just had a large bump in salary to 75k. I've got federal loans at 6% interest so I am trying to pay them off asap, before saving for retirement. I am in my mid 20s.

You realize this isn't a "how much do you make thread," right?

Can you read? Here is the OP:

How much did/do you owe in student loans and how much are you earning now?

The responder had NO LOANS (first part of question answered) and makes 150K (second part of question answered).

Still confused?

Great, can I play then? $0 and $0. See how useless these responses are?

I think they're helpful for demonstrating that you don't need to take massive loans for crazy expensive schools in order to make a decent salary as several of the posters have pointed out that they avoided loans by going to in state public schools.

I'm about to head into my final year. I'll finish with about $40k.

I'll make somewhere over $100k this year, but I made under $2k last year, which is why I have so much in loans.
