There are some ugly "new money" homes (I'm guessing you mean huge McMansions that are gaudy?), but I recommend you drive around Potomac and Bethesda for a nice array of those, too.

There aren't exactly a lot of historic homes here, it's not exactly Newport is it?

You should not equate impatience with insipid posts with sensitivity about a particular town. McLean isn't a big deal, but neither is Arlington, Bethesda or most DC neighborhoods.

i like it. i know mclean fairly well, but not each street exactly, but i have a good idea of where this house is. there is no beltway noise and it's a good location. this house might be in one of those neighborhoods where it's the most expensive on the street. i personally wouldn't want that, but this house is very nice. i could cope with this house. in my opinion, mclean high school is preferable over langley. (variety of reasons.)

to add to the mclean restaurants: tachibana is great sushi!

PP here. I'm not from here, so McLean is kind of a joke to me.

This is my hood so ill chime in. The tiny lot is prolly worth 500k so the builder did well shelling out 350k at auction. With that in mind they could have done better than hardi siding on the ex. The interior in general seems nice enough. Im guessing the builder put it up for circa 450k and is looking to double their money. I personally think a more realistic price for this is 1.3m which leaves plenty of room to profit. The other properties that were mentioned earlier may be better values but this house is in a better location. Hard to argue about the previously mentioned drug problem. We gots a pharmacy every 500 ft around here.

The builder paid 356k just for the lot in 2010. How much does it cost to build a house like that? Do builders really clear a million bucks on each spec house? Damn, i went into the wrong business.

The lot looks small for the price. I think the inside looks fine (don't like the fireplace, though! lol!) and it looks spacious, but I'm not digging the outside of the house -- the outside just isn't that appealing; it has neither old world nor new world charm. The other houses people posted look nicer.
