thats arguing the merits on how the name was assigned and if you want to argue that go ahead. that wouldnt stop me from calling it reagan airport.

It's really the same point: If giving preference to one part of the name ("National") versus another ("Reagan") for political reasons is dumb, then the prior act of actually changing the name for political reasons is far dumber. What I'm really asking is whether you are being intellectually consistent in your name-calling.

Just managed to start calling it "Whole Foods" instead of "Fresh Fields" or "Bread and Circus", if anyone even remembers that.

Don't know any locals who call it anything but "National" or maybe "Reagan National".

I call it DCA. Lived in the area 20 years and was here in college. If talking to outsiders, I call it National.

I also say BWI. No one calls it Marshall. And I say Dulles. Dulles is shorter than saying IAD but sometimes I say IAD.

Our airports are wildly named, Reagan and Dulles! I mean, really! I call National National and I will until I get in a cab and he doesn't know which airport I mean, tee hee.

Considering that renaming the airport after Reagan was a part of a cynical national campaign to name as many public buildings in the US after Reagan for naked political reasons, and there was absolutely zero local public support for such a thing, Reagan and the Gingrich-era Congress that shoved this name-change down area residents' throats can go fuck themselves.

and what monument or building isnt named for political reasons anyway? its not as if naming something after jfk or another president is done for non political reasons.

i dont lose sleep over an airport named after a president i didnt really jump for joy over.
