I do it all the time. My oven has a Sabbath mode and on Saturdays, when for religious reasons, I cant operate the oven, I leave it on 225 degrees for 24 hrs (from Fri evening to Sat evening) so I can warm food.

Over holidays, I leave the oven on for 2-3 days at a time. Most people I know do this as well. Many people leave a burner on the stove on as well - usually on low with a full pot of water on top. In 33 years of living in communities that do this on a regular basis, I have never known anyone to have a fire because of it.

I once thought about running out to get my son while the mac & cheese was still baking in the oven. I really thought it would be ok, but I changed my mind at the last minute. I promptly got a flat tire and arrived home hours after I thought I would.

I wouldn't do it.

Your neighbors must think you are a peach.

Me too. I also leave the crock pot on all day. I wouldn't leave the fireplace on, a candle burning, the coffee pot on, or the dryer running. But a closed oven set to a relatively low temp? I do it all the time.

Please just sit right in front of the appliances and make certain that they don't just burst into flames, and BURN YOU UP!

I use to write fire reports like the one you quoted. I was a bit paranoid about fire before I started doing that kind of work but after researching fires day in and day out. HELL NO! Don't leave anything on like a stove, candles or clothes dryer unattended!!

I do it all the time. The oven is new and has a timer, and it is electric. It turns off when the time is up. The crock pot worries me more. It is a cheap appliance that could easily short. likewise the coffeepot.
