I don't "allow" it but if they come home with ink on them I don't really care, and don't bother washing it off until next bath.

This is not a big deal for us, either. It sometimes happens, and then we (usually) wash it off. More common is that DD will get marker or paint all over her hands while making art on paper, and that too isn't a huge deal to me. It's all non-toxic, and it'll come off eventually.

When i was a kid i would try and trace the veins on my arms and legs to try and see if i could map them out. All part of scientific curiosity.

it's a pretty natural thing for humans to do and though my baby is only 11 months, I intend to let her do it — unless she is using permanent marker. I think it's strange to squelch such a normal exploration.

My daughter has drawn on herself a few times and it never bothered me until.. one day she had a friend over and they drew pictures all over themselves - including mustaches on their faces. I was shocked at first, but then started cracking up - it was still warm out and they both had to go to school the next day so wouldn't have been easy to hide all the flowers and hearts etc going up their arms and legs. Luckily the other mom is super laid back and didn't mind. I also allow fake tattoos. i don't care what other people think of this but am surprised that there are so many that find it so upsetting.

We do. I get why others wouldn't but when my DD began drawing on herself one day, DH & I looked at each other to see if the other cared and neither of us did.

Aw - I remember that too. Can you still get that or has it since been deemed cancer causing or otherwise and unsafe, but fond, memory from childhood?

I remember drawing watches on my brother's wrist, socks on his feet, he'd do the same to me... tatoos, all sorts of things...

Once our older cousin even draw a bra on an younger cousin pretending it was a tatoo... LOL we still have pictures!

My mother still tells the story of the time my brother was three and drew a line right down the center of his body, starting at the hairline and down to the tip….

YES! Why not? Washable felt tip pens are best, all my children (aged) 4, 2 and 1 doodle every now and again on their hands, legs, tummies etc...it washes off at bathtime!! They draw anythng from henna patterns they've seen in books (an indian wedding the brides arms are covered in henna) bones- my daughter once drew her entire skeleton on to her skin at pre school -i was really impressed! Flowers, pirate ships, animals you name it they've drawn it. I don't see the harm they are only young and i'm sure they will grow out of it. They also love face painting and this is at every kids party we attend I'm not sure why drawing on yourself with a pen is seen in such a negative light?

My 20 mo old knows the difference. I don't see a problem with it.

She'll even say "sorry" when she's coloring and by mistake colors the table or something.

She knows what markers and paints are for skin, tub, paper, etc.

I can't imagine how boring some of you are! Yikes!
