GAO is very family friendly. Daycare right in the buildng, and you get special parking if you use the day care -- so you can on and off load.

One final question. Without revealing more information than you are comfortable revealing, can you please tell me which agencies you believe are the most family-friendly (in terms of flex schedules, telework, part-time options) and which agencies are the least? I realize that much of this depends on the divisions and supervisors within those agencies, and would love it if you would get as specific as you can.

It seems to me that DOJ (including US Attorneys' Offices) are less family friendly because of the litigation work, but I would be more than happy to stand corrected.

There are non-litigating attorney positions at DOJ as well, and some are quite family-friendly.

I don't know, but like other organizations, every agency needs lawyers even if they never write a single reg. for things like HR, contracts, appropriations, IP, torts, etc.

Pardon my ignorance, but what would a lawyer working for USGS even do?

The best in terms of reputation, flex programs and based on those I know and have talked to are:
US Patent and Trademark Office
USGS (in Reston)
