I wonder where my kid's stubbornness comes from?
Yes! The canned Chinese food! Chung King or something, right? I wonder if they still sell that. I don't remember it being that bad though.

If you want to be really grossed out, there's a website out there that has pictures of recipe cards from weight watchers from the 70's (I think). They are hilarious and horrifying.
I LOVE that site! Hilarious!

We had that often when I was a kid and I liked it. My mom served it over rice. It was such a popular dish at one time.
I LOVED chicken a la king. You're right about it once being very popular, back in the 40's when my grandparents got married, that was what was served at their wedding!
My mom used to serve it over these puffed pastry shells. They were frozen and made by Pepperidge Farm--not sure if I've seen them sold any time recently. It was one of my favorites.
My mom was actually a very good cook...but I'd say the worst food she ever made me eat was crab legs. I can't stand seafood at all...and the crab legs were just so slightly sweet and chewy and gross. They wouldn't let me eat the table 'till I ate it all, and of course I threw them up afterwards...I think I was probably around 9 or 10 at the time.
