Way back in the early (mid?) 90s, when the "internets" still seemed like a novel thing, there were chat room type things called Bulletin Board Systems (BBS). There was one that Jim Vance supposedly frequented; he said he could prove it was really him by either saying what color tie he'd wear on the next broadcast or take requests. I don't think I ever followed-up but sometimes still wonder if it was really him.

I've lived in DC for over 30 years (I remember when Doreen got here!). Jim Vance marches to the beat of his own damn drummer, and he can do that because he is beloved in DC. I for one love the fact that this buttoned down town has an anchor with a big old earring who does his own thing.

I'm not from this area so I've bounced around all the local channels til I finally settled on the current Channel 4 team. I love Jim. At first I found his earring thing distracting. Now I like it. I remember when this area had the big power outages and the Pepco president was in the studio taking questions from Jim. I thought it was gonna be one of those kidglove question/answer sessions. Um.....no. Love him, Doreen, Wendy, Pat Lawson and that fine ass Doug Kammerer the weatherman.

21:034 - THIS. Thank you. When I first moved here, I REALLY did not get George Michael, and definitely not Pat Collins! Now that George has passed, I am still flummoxed. There was some sort of relationship between him and Vance, which seems touching. But I just don't get how they place most of their newscasters. It would never fly in most markets. But the people that grew up here eat it up. Funny and telling.

Darcy Spencer's eye is a drooping sparrow jogging in a milky socket. That is all. New's channel 4 is indeed a motley crew. We watch them for the bloodsport of Jim's barely contained foamy rage at white people and celebration of all mediocre DC things. His editorials are hilariously cringeworthy.
