I think its silly to argue about which is best - obviously people have different preferences. Personally I enjoy Baked and Wired and Georgetown cupcakes. I also really like Sticky Fingers - indeed we used them for our wedding.

I think Cakelove cakes are terrible though. They've been around the longest but are just awful.

I'm partial to Bakeshop too, but the absolute yummiest Red Velvet cupcake ever is to be found at Bayou Bakery in Courthouse. Forget the other cupcakes, just go straight to the red velvet.

Baked and wired. Wonderful everything. For a bargain, grab a multi-layered cake scrap at the cash register--cheaper than a cupcake, but same materials. And better frosting distribution!

Hello Cupcake in Dupont Circle are my favorite. And strangely enough, Larry's Ice cream, also in Dupont Circle, makes awesome cupcakes.

honestly? Safeway. For about $1/cupcake or less, I like their cake and their frosting better than the $4 cupcakes at the other places. I think the high volume means the cakes are always really fresh. (i have a Red Velvet downstairs - the 7th/E one - and the cake is always dry.)

I do like Buzz cupcakes, but not 3x more than Safeway's.

I live near this one and the cupcakes are very good, inexpensive and make up for what seems to be their indifference to certain customers.

Bakeshop on Fillmore in Clarendon

Crumbs are made offsite and trucked in.

Just cakes in Bethesda is good too.

Baked and Wired are the best. Crumbs is horrible; I don't even know how they call those paperweights cupcakes.

Absolutely PP. Lavender Moon Cupcakery in Old Town has, hands down, the most delicious cupcakes in our area.

New cupcake bakery in wildwood shopping center ( north Bethesda). I had vanilla/vanilla. Very good, I will be back. Though, the place is devoid of character and identity (so far, anyway.) Doubt it will do well for some reason. But the cupcake was tastey....and expensive, $3. It is called fraiche bakery. They have smoothies, too.

Most overrated cupcakes ever.

Agree. Like ckes by Leslie in Bethesda better, but really love sticky fingers in dc

Sticky fingers are vegan. No way they can even be in the conversation.

To each their own. I got them for dc b-day party and people raved about them. Vegan-smegan. Raved, I tell you!

Red Velvet are hands down the best. We get cupcakes from there about once a week and they are consistently good.

I found Baked and Wired cupcakes to be too try and overly sweet. The same with Crumbs. The worst cupcakes ever are Cake Love. I bought three last week and had to throw them away. The chocolate one didn't even taste of chocolate. Ditto the raspberry frosting. The carrotcake cupcake had so much clove in it that it made my mouth go numb.
