A nice meal out, just the two of you. You arrange the sitter and make all the plans (and pick up the check!).

Get the grandparents to agree to come to your house and watch the kids for a weekend. While you and your wife stay at a nice hotel (Ritz, Mandarin Oriental) - could be in DC or not too far away. You book spa time for your wife and/or theater tickets and/or a really high end dinner for you both.

Anything at Tiffanys. Pearls also good.

A gift certificate to the Fairmont or Ritz, club level. (I personally would do club level certificate at the Ritz-Tysons.) If you can afford it, give her a gift certificate to the spa in the hotel, too. If you go with Ritz/Tysons, she can lounge at the spa, go to the club room to snack/eat (you said she doesn't drink, but if she did, she could do that, too) and creep back to her room to sleep. If she likes to shop, she can go to the Galleria. You can go with her or you can take the kids -- depending on how old your kids are and her level of "mom-tiredness" she may want the "just me time" Good luck!

Do you guys go out often? If she likes to dress up, I would say plan something where she gets to dress up if this is something you don't do often. Maybe there is a show you can get tickets to. Or maybe there is an inn where the guests dress for dinner.

It really depends on your wife, if she has EVERYTHING (I am one of those women who has everything...I make a lot of money, and if I want something, I get it). You need to get her something that is HER. Last year from Christmas my DH bought me the really old hard cover Nancy Drew books. I loved them as a girl and told him that I had bought two or three and wanted to start collecting them. He bought me the whole collection. Things like this make more of an impression because they show your wife that you're listening to her.

Umm, I like to think I have a personal relationship with my husband, but hey that's just me. In this case, I go for spa days on my own if I want them. I had been eyeing brightly colored accessories because I wore so much black and gray. I actually hate going into retail stores to shop and don't typically buy purses, so in my case it was the perfect gift. If you are someone that regularly comes home with a new purse and have very specific requirements, no it wouldn't make a good gift. It's like buying a tech gadget for someone that is a true techie and not only gets the latest thing right away, but likes the research Process and getting to try out the technology, getting that person the latest gadget may not be the right call even though you are following an interest.
