completely normal. ours is also closed all federal holidays + some religious + 1 week in the summer + the week between christmas & new years. like PP said, my husband & I share the burden between working remotely & taking time off.

My DD's new center is only closed on the Federal holidays and this is one of the many reason's that I chose the center.

It really doesn't matter if a parent gets paid vacation or not. There are plenty of professions that work under different rule, i.e. some teachers/professors get a couple of months off of work. That does not entitle me to the same working conditions.

The reason that centers are requesting the additional days off is because of the market demand. If the tide were to ever turn on the daycare situation in DC, you would not see centers with these ridiculous requests.

I have a friend that moved here from Chicago, had a NAEYC certified center there with all the bells and whistles, and she is still amazed at the compromises that she must make to get quality care.

My daughter's preschool is closed the week between Christmas and New Year's -- no reduction in monthly fee. I get that. But then for the days they are "closed" they run a winter break camp for which there is an additional fee if you wish to send your child to school on those days.

Actually no, it isnt one of my 4 weeks off. My kids have either been napping, not here or eating lunch while i hopped on to print some things for them to work on before they go down for their nap. Not that it isnt your concern but my kids are very well cared for, thank you
