Could any current Beauvoir parent comment on the school's current environment? For example, have you seen the school address this issue head-on and talk about how it screens its teachers or teacher policies with regard to being alone with students? We are considering sending our child there for PRE-K.

Toth was never at Columbia, perhaps you are thinking of Cornell. And we don't know why he left Cornell.

I don't think that the DC police would have just escorted him off the property, I think they would have taken him in for questioning. The whole "case" would have been different. We don't know what the police would have done beyond questing him. We don't know if Toth would have fled. We can speculate all we want.

My personal view is that had the police been called in a timely fashion, they would have questioned him, he would not have been able to take his money out of the bank without notice, drive to the midwest and use credit cards (the police tracked down WEEKS later that he bought a GPS at a best buy in illinois or indiana, I can't remember), get help from his family (at the time they helped him he was not a fugitive) and continue to contact children and families. It would have been different, perhaps resulting in him rotting behind bars where he belongs rather than roaming freely around the country likely concocting more lies and hurting more innocent children.

He left, no doubt, as he had fled before in other places where he had lived, when his lies and the carefully crafted persona he had crafted, came crashing down. For example, when he left Columbia and turned up at Purdue remade as an education major.This is a character trait that kicks in in times of extreme stress. Suicide or flee/change you identity ( a suicide of the self of sorts) Both actions are sociopathic and/or psychotic patterns. Doubt such a mind responds to an Adam 12 like" oh, and don't leave town because you may be needed for questioning". Personally, I would not want my child exposed to him at the moment he was confronted. Perhaps these were admin's concerns as well. I heard the judge was involved with Sandusky's charity - I can't remember if he was a big donor, on the board, or what, but there is definitely a link there.

The judge who turned down the DA's request for $500,000 secured bond AND an ankle bracelet and released Sandusky to his own recog on $100,000 unsecured bond is a SHE. Shocking, I know. But then again in PA , judges are elected by the public for most court levels and they aren't necessarily educated in child predators or pedophila. They are not required to take continuing Ed in these areas. Or at least they weren't many years ago when I was working in Phila. I remember a horrific case in which a doctor at CHOP was testifying as an expert about a child abuse case and the judge ruled in the defendants favor saying that he didn't think the prosecution's ( the Phila DA's) case was made that the step-father did what the child and other witnessed and physical evidence showed because this judge thought and I quote ," if he really is a child abuser he would have beaten ALL the kids in the house, not just one". This judge was a male, had been voted onto the bench 30 years before and had no continuing Ed requirement eventhough he was a family court judge. Does it surprise ANYONE, after what we are all learning has been going on for decades in State College, that a judge might be "in the pocket" of powerful people in town. Just my humble opinion, of course.

To be clear on one point: They way our legal system works... if the DC police (instead of the Cathedral Police) had been called at the time the camera was found, they probably would have only been able to do nothing more than remove Toth from the campus and begun their investigation. Yes, that would have preserved the crime season... but Toth very well may have fled because they had nothing to hold him on in the very beginning. Although the evidence was clearly child pornography, and Toth was clearly the obvious suspect, unless there was a known witness as to whom took the photos, the evidence has to be treated as purely circumstantial when first discovered. The DC police are not going to botch a case by making an arrest or actually hold (as in not release a suspect after questioning) someone for questioning before they at least investigate the evidence and obtain important related information. Before police call in a person of interest or suspect for questioning they find out the facts around the case; they build a case; so they are prepared for all/every excuse the person is going to use. And, if the police had questioned Toth immediately, he probably would not have been arrested immediately unless he admitted to the crime. The sad reality is that the guy probably would have had an opportunity to flee. I hope and pray that Toth will be found eventually and put away forever. I'm not saying the DC police should not have been called immediately, I agree that they should have; what I am saying is that it probably would not have made a difference in terms of Toth's fleeing.

The culture--not the crime and particular circumstances reminds me of Landon. Win at all costs and protect the athletes, donors and others.

Just an aside... and parents of daughters don't be offended but I've been flabbergasted by the lack of interest or concern by dads (of daughters) about "pa Joe" or whatever they called him. This jack crap has got to go.
