After reading all of these posts, I still don't understand how the murder described above somehow reflects on the entire Scotland community, even if was committed by someone who lived there (which seems arguable now). I live in Potomac, and I certainly hope that that sins of every other Potomac resident are not attributed to my entire community! It just wasn't relevant to the OP question. By the way, Tootie Cooper grew up in Scotland. As an adult, he lived for a while in Rockville---next door to Baker.

The public records reveal that Tootie Cooper (Emory Galvester Cooper, Jr.) lived on Ashley Ave, next door to Shorty Baker. And yes, Scotland had a history of crime in the 1960's and 70's. That is not wrong. I do have my stories straight regarding Cooper's attack on Ila Allnut (of Poolesville) and his attack and murder of Edith Anita Welch-Williams. Maybe you should contact the detectives with the Montgomery County Cold Case Office and ask them. I did the research... maybe you should.

I'm from Scotland and trust me it isn't so bad. Yea we may be "ghetto" but not as ghetto as you think. I went to Bells Mill Elementary, Cabin John Middle School and Churchill. We have a rich history behind this glad infact I would love for you all to atleast take a look at it and don't take what others of Potomac say because they never been here. Only my family (Dove relatives and those few who aren't)

I recently found out from a long-time friend who I hadn't seen in years, that a young man was shot and killed on Scotland Drive in Potomac back in 1975 or around that time. Would anyone who lived in Scotland or the area during that time know anything about the shooting? I'm only concerned with the name of the young man who was killed. I lived in Bethesda during that time, but I do not remember hearing about that taking place.

I grew up in Potomac and went to Churchill. I was well aware that there were issues with Scotland. But there were also more minor issues with the section 8 type housing in my neighborhood (Fallsreach). I had no idea that Scotland housing replaced cardboard shacks. It's amazing what you miss when you don't ask questions.

Funny how far places can come from being back wood slums to poor areas to being taken over but people desperate for the potomac address. Cabin John is like that too and now is rapidly becoming millionaires only.
