I think the only bad actor is Lauren Graham. Whenever something bad is happening (which is most of the time), she has the same pinched look on her face. I can't stand it anymore.

The guy who plays Adam, though, is great. When he found out his daughter was having sex, I really thought he was going to throw up. DH and I laughed for a long time watching him in that scene! (as we expect our own baby daughter in a few days)

I agree. Lauren Graham is a bad actor. I guess I just felt that the show (at least the first few episodes that I saw) was just very contrived and so freakin' busy. And me and my husband were laughing at the couples reaction in the first episode (sorry don't know the characters names) when their daughter asked them about sex. First of all the couple just seemed stiff and weird... and the fact that they couldn't even deal with their kids question was weird. They also didn't come off as being very parent-like. The seemed like a childless couple who didn't know what to do with this kid asking questions about sex.

Oh get over yourself you bully!
Why can't you just read the PP's post for what it is, and not try to turn into something so freaking cerebral?!

I also thought Adam was looking in the trash outside his house not a gym bag, which means it's Christina (he'll think it's Haddie--confront her and then they'll both wonder why Christina would hide that--maybe she's worried about having another?).

Unlike the PP, I love the show like many others do because of the fantastic writing and acting. Sometimes it's so close to my life (daughter defying parents to date older boy), it's kind of freaky. Do I need to be living it and watching it on TV? But sometimes it actually gives me perspective on my teen.

Did I miss why Amber only applied to two colleges? Not very realistic, even if it does move the plot along.

Question, does anyone else find Julia totally awful? I don't know if it's the actress or the writing but I find her just such a thin character. She just always seems so stiff to me and so not believable...I think it may be the actress, I just find her off putting.

Gee, that's kind of you to say. I wrote the above about not liking her and I AM a female attorney.

It was just a joke! I was hoping to ruffle a few feathers and was kinda disappointed when no one took the bait. Guess that makes me a troll.

I like Julia's character and think it's in line with a busy, career oriented mom. Although I do hate it when she's walking all over her husband and his career.

Also, the issues Amber deals with are certainly cross-gender. And I want my son to have meaningful, loving sex the first time at a mature age, as well.

I am due with our second in about a month, we don't know the sex. We already have a DS. DH and I were watching parenthood this week and he looks over and says " now I kind of hope it's anyother boy"

I watch the show but sometimes zip thru sections i find tedious and predictable. All the women talk the same and talk over each other especially christina, hattie, amber and ambers mom. I find that annoying and rude but the writers seem to think its charming.

Yes, but her boyfriend is older and likely more experienced and they do seem to really care about each other a lot. I was lucky to have a great first serious boyfriend and when we went down that path it was very nice.

I thought it was the trash. But it could have been the gym bag, which would make more sense.

Love the show but the whole calling her parents during sex was just a bit too improbable even for TV. Plus that sex was pretty "hot" for someone who had only done it a couple of times. In my experience those first teen gropings were more awkward than sexy.
