Not true. You can meet with the AART at your school and view a copy of the submittal (including GBRS score) that was sent to the central screening committee.

Is it true you can't get GBRS score until after eligibility letters go out? Has anyone already been able to get them from the school?

NNAT 149, COGAT 118, GBRS 8. waiting for the decision.

Those seem like very good scores to me. I'd wait until you get the results before paying for WISC. They will get you the results in time for appeal.

18:31, I agree with the PP. But with those scores, I think your kid is likely to be admitted with no need for appeal.

18:31: If you are unsure, wait until the committee results come in.

17:23: 14:52 here....I understand the financial issues. the thing is if your child does not get in initially, the only option is to appeal. To appeal, you need to supply new data. The best data is WISC testing, which the county does not supply.
That is just a fact. If you can not afford it, then wait to see what happens. Make the decision when you have the data. And if you can show real need, it is possible that a tester will work with on on the cost. I do not know of any that will.

IMHO, the primary advantage of the AAP centers is the cohorts of children. There are no slow children that set a slower pace.

We are not in a position to pay $10K a year for private school. The $380 is a significant sacrifice for us financially. I get your point, but those choices just aren't available to us.

If you think full time AAP is valuable, then think of what the value is. I figure without AAP at the center, I would probably be paying 10k + per year in private school tuition. The cost of the WISC is much much lower than that.

thank you poster! called gmu and they said they could schedule the wisc and get me the results in time for appeal, even if i wait until after the initial decision. i'm certainly going to wait and see what the initial decision is before footing the $380 bill. thanks for the insights!

Anonymous wrote:Thanks for the insights, poster above. With an in-pool child (just barely, with a 130 NNAT and 115 -120 CogAt) how critical is it to submit a private WISC on appeal? GBRS is 12. I really don't want to spend the bucks unnecessarily.

I had a child with a similar profile (a little different, though -- CogAt was over 130 because of one perfect subtest, but NNAT under 130 and GBRS of 12). We did get the WISC, which showed the subtest wasn't a fluke. I think it's what put us over the edge (although I'll never really know). On appeal, you have to submit some new information. If you don't have the WISC, it's hard to find other stuff. Also, the WISC is objective (rather than submitting another recommendation or something, which would be subjective). The WISC will convince them (and you -- we wanted to make sure we weren't doing the wrong thing) That your child belongs there. Also, the WISC gives you a nice picture of your child's strengths and weaknesses. We took DC to GMU, where they do al of the subtests, so you get a lot of info.

Please continue to post the scores. We're moving into the area and are doing the WISC to see if our child would even be eligible to be considered for the AAP program.

Knowing what the scores are for children who have been accepted/not accepted into the program will help immensely as we figure out whether to pursue admission directly this summer, or to simply wait until the "new student" testing by the school in the fall.

almost the same scores as the above poster, but gbrs 14. not really into paying the bucks or messing with the system/fate. but sure would like a school better than our base school.
