Parents seem very involved. There is a high FARMS rate. Someone mentioned that may be due to a higher percentage of military families and their qualifying income is calculated differently? Not sure of the details. In any event, PTA is very active and there were swarms of parents at back to school night.

I've also come to realize that there are families who moved to the neighborhood knowing they wanted to send their children to St. John's and that the decision wasn't a reflection of Glen Haven per se.

My main concern is the stats as compared to other ES in the immediate vicinity...

54.1% FARMS (61% now or in the past)
33.4% ESOL

How does that translate (or not) to parent involvement/PTA resources, instruction, etc?

Great! The school has definitely passed a tipping point and I expect almost all neighborhood parents to keep their kids in it.

In the past, certain neighborhoods would send a big proportion of the kids to Catholic schools.

Lived in the neighborhood for ten years, but new to GHES this year. We had reservations over the years, but our experience with the school over the past two weeks has been great!

Now that the new school year has started, any recent experiences with Glen Haven? Wondering if it has really improved by leaps and bounds.

PP. I get my info from neighbors since I don't have kids in there yet, but there are other ways to get info.

You can follow the principal on twitter: https://twitter.com/GHES_Principal

What's your problem? The principal who left was nominated for Washington Post principal of the year and the school has improved its test scores

I did hear that a lot of teachers had a hard time with her new approach, mostly the older ones who were kind of set in their ways and didn't want extra accountability. I guess you were one of them

She's talking about the second-to-last principal.
