I filed in Oregon, but not DC as I had no DC sourced income. I'm concerned with sending them my 2012 tax returns since that has my social security number on it.

I was unaware of the need to get a business license and now they are demanding my Schedule E's for the last three years of rental income. I had to put $100,000 into this house to get it suitable for renting and they want to tax me on my gross income. I'm just trying to recoup my money. On what authority are they allowed to do this?

They are known abusers of debt collection practices and do pull numbers out of the air and rely on gullible people to pay the false debt claims. You have to treat MuniServices as you would third-party debt collectors, namely send a debt validation letter to make THEM prove you do not owe the taxes/fees. It is not YOUR responsibility to prove you do not owe, THEY are the ones that have to prove it! And anyone from MuniServices (and any other debt collection agencies for that matter) would say you will go to jail is lying. All debt collection attempts, including phone calls, text messages, etc. are to STOP once they receive the debt validation letter (sent via Certified Mail, Return Receipt). I successfully muted Portfolio Recovery ASSociates through the help of an ebook from Credit Sabre.

I have a corp tax issue in which DC says we paid our DC taxes late despite the fact that we have produced certified mail receipts and copies of checks/bank statements showing it was paid on time. I have now spent a year and a half with Muni Services, a place called RSI, and the DC gov people trying to get it sorted out. The money at stake is tiny (literally 12 cents of initial interest along with about $250 of penalties and subsequent interest) but I refuse to pay a penalty when we paid our frigging taxes on time.
We are considering moving our business out of DC to eliminate our dealings with the DC government. We currently operate in 3 jurisdictions and DC is the ONLY one where we ever have problems and every one of those problems has not been our fault yet takes time, and in some cases money, to solve. I am not one to bash DC but it is actually shocking how bad it is in comparison to our other jurisdictions.
