16:09, funny, I hear a lot of complaining (and rightly so) that schedules are a mess, discipline is a mess and it took 2 or 3 assistant principals to replace Pope. (Let's ponder for a moment about that budget hit...)

I can only assume the reference to Hardy relates to some parents being upset with the removal of former Principal Pope, who was very popular with many parents and students (and not so popular with others). The school continues to thrive, however, with a great set of teachers, a beautiful facility and new leadership. The biggest challenges come from increased enrollment and the related growing pains.

2 Rivers goes through 8 and I would definitely send my child there before Hardy. 2 Rivers is only a few years old, but getting better all the time. Hardy has just been slaughtered by DCPS itself.
What does slaughter mean? How is Hardy suffering?

EL Haynes is similar to Cap City. Not a separate middle school, but covers grades 6 to 8 in the context of a preK to 12 school.
I can't remember if Two Rivers goes through 6 or 8.

I read the conversation on this thread as about the wildly varying opportunities at public middle schools in DC. BTW, Hardy should be the next stampede (and not because Rhee dispensed with Pope), as it's been renovated and offers a much smaller, familial atmosphere. It's also much more geographically viable for many families than upper NW Deal.

It looks the the percentage of low income kids is higher at the 7th grade level, than say the 3rd grade level.
It's likely the school suffers the problem of every other public school in the District. Those who have the means often start leaving around the third grade.
Look at the OSSE report cards broken down by grade and it gives you a clearer picture of SES and race broken down by grade.

I think this thread is about all middle schools in DC, not just Deal. Thanks for sharing info on Cap City.
How would it work for a chid entering Cap City in grade 5 or 6? Is that usual - do kids transfer to Cap City for middle school? Are spots at that grade in big demand?

They do not have the same resouces as Deal, but if happiness and actual learning are important to you, then you would be very happy with Cap City.
