It's called a burden. Every time someone has to do something for another adult that they should have learned a long time ago is a burden.

I travel weekly for work. There are very few circumstances where I would want my wife to pick me up or drop me off. Between flight delays and cancellations to my own schedule needing to adjust I prefer the control and not inconveniencing my spouse. And yes I expense all my travel.

You can still learn to drive. I'm a "I never pick him up" poster. I'm mid 40s too. Both of us grew up in big European cities and didn't drive either.

You know what I did out of love? I learned to drive..so I could pick him up at the airport when he came back from 6 months of deployment overseas.

But these days, 20 years later, no, I don't pick him up at the airport, particularly not when he can expense the ride at the end of a work trip.

I don't travel for work, so the free part doesn't apply, but I was traveling out of town relatively often to care for a sick parent out of state. I'm fine with uber, and took ubers from the airport to my parent's, but I will admit that the few times someone picked me up, it was nice to see a friendly face, and have company on the ride. It has nothing to do with being scared.

It’s not helpless, it’s called love. LOL. What a concept right?

Before having kids once in a while. Now never. We travel so often that it would too much of a burden. Maybe when travel is for personal reasons of if she doesn’t feel welll, I would do it.

DHs company pays for him to park (he travels once a quarter) and we use the points he earns to park for free when we travel. So never. If I go somewhere alone, I don't really want him to drive me. Planes get delayed, traffic can be bad. I can wait the 35 min to see him.

I know a woman who is now in her mid-60s like you and not being able to drive is a huge burden on people.

Rarely! I really hate nighttime highway driving and he knows it. He’d much rather have me happy at home to greet him.
