OP here. My daughter is an adult now, so it's really not my job to make her go to the doctor. She makes her own healthcare decisions.

Based on her symptoms, it doesn't seem like a UTI or an STD—it appears to be a yeast infection. She's planning to eat yogurt and doesn't want to use any OTC treatments. I'm willing to buy something for her if she changes her mind, she still hasn’t,but I've heard clotrimazole 7 day is better than but the prices are a bit jarring.

Sounds like it might be a UTI and not vaginal. She needs to see a doctor. Planned Parenthood is great for things like this at her age.

She needs to go to the dr so that it is properly diagnosed. Is it bacterial or is it a yeast infection?

If it is persistent - she may need something stronger than OTC stuff and the dr can prescribe stronger antibiotics or anti-fungal.

Next...If bacterial - Boric Acid suppositories are extremely effective.

Yeast infection - OTC suppositories work.

Also -
- She can start taking AZO and cranberry supplements. Or unsweetened cranberry juice
- She should not use soap for washing her private parts
- She should not wear thongs or nylon panties. She should switch to comfortable cotton panties and change frequently.
- A dab of pure coconut oil can keep the private area infection free ( once the currant infection clears).

If it's a UTI or STD that she's refusing to get proper medical care for, she might end up seeing a doctor whether she wants to or not -- in the ER.

Why won’t she see a doctor? Are you members of some weird cult?

She can try eating plain yogurt, no sugar added (not douching with it). But it sounds like it could be a URI, which if untreated could go to her kidneys, or another condition that could be properly diagnosed by a doctor. Since you’re not getting the answers you want here, maybe try ChatGPT.

She probably doesn't have this, but if my kid was being an idiot who wouldn't see a doctor I'd find the gnarliest TSS story or similar (like one with limb amputations) I could find to get them to wise up about this. Playing chicken with your health is just stupid.

You're a parent, you need to parent your child. When your kid is acting stupidly in a way that can cause themselves physical harm, your job is to tell them that.

Self diagnosing, not getting medical care, trying random meds from around the house or internet remedies are all dumb things that can cause her harm. She's 18 though, she's gonna do dumb stuff. As her mom it's your job to tell her this stuff will hurt her.

These are not the symptoms of a yeast infection. I doubt that’s what she has.

yeast infections dont typically cause intermittent burning. they typically cause intense itching. and your daughter actually is happy to use antifungal creams, just not a new tube from the store.

She's clearly not very uncomfortable then. Anyway, not Monistat One Day. Never Monistst One Day.

OMG, been there!!!! Stupid me was like, why would anyone buy the 7 day when you can just buy the ONE DAY?

I would have happily had my vagina amputated after inserting that One Day treatment.

None of them work. Sometimes the OTC stuff doesn't really work.

Why not walk into any drugstore in the country and buy the OVER THE COUNTER medication specifically dedicated to treating vaginal yeast infections?

I’m not sure why people are being so rude about this. I said she doesn’t want to use any medication, and wants something that isn’t medication. She’s willing to buy that, but not medication.

She literally wants to use an antifungal medication that is in your house, as opposed to purchasing an antifungal medication from cvs that actually treats vaginal yeast infections. miconazole and ketoconazole are basically the same thing. but you have to get the vaginal suppository not some random cream thats not meant to go inside your vagina.

She can try vinegar sitz baths but I can't imagine sitting around with a yeast infection for more than a couple of days and not be willing to, at a certain point, do anything it took to just make that itching go away. It's like having poison ivy inside of your vagina!
