The Cannon Cup is one of those tournaments for clubs to play their 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th teams. Its not competitive.
All of them are. We’re in Virginian and the top brackets across the board are just another local tournament with one or two middling outside DMV clubs who like to do a Memorial Day tourney.
I’ll never understand why Jeff Cup is some sort of March tuneup instead of a mid-May to early June tourney. Just kidding, the clubs have to divide up their piddling cash cow tourneys throughout the year…
Agreed, some of these things you get a sense that two clubs come together to agree to attend each other's tournaments. SYC and VRSC both heavily attend each other's events.
Don't forget VSA and Arlington. One year we played the same two teams 4x between tournaments and regular season games.
I wouldn't complain too much - this happens a lot because there are only so many teams at a certain level and they often get paired together. My kid played the same GA team 3x as an ECNL team because they're the only one good enough to make the top flight of the local tournaments.
This happens at the lower level too. My younger child’s team has has played against at least 3 different teams 2 or 3 times this year between league play and tournaments. Interestingly they have tied two of the teams twice. I guess they are very evenly matched.

Potomac did a great job of managing a very enormous and unwieldy tournament, everything went on time and absolutely the worst weather conditions I have seen and managing different age brackets across different fields was done expertly. I had kids in the top age, the u13, and the u littlests diving in the mud at Muldoon and let me tell you Muldoon parking is a hazard. Fields themselves were fine. But parking was awful awful awful.
That's awesome!!! Those are some of the situations that create core memories for your kids!
We played on turf, I hate playing on turf all the time. Creates pre-madonas. Kids are spoiled, would trade 10 turf games for one good squishy grass and mud game.
Omg, the word is prima donna.
Maybe he meant pre-maradona.

Anonymous wrote:SAC tournament here, and I am so proud of the kids for playing in the conditions they did! No one complained, kids were laughing at making mud angels at the end. They must have been freezing but they roughed it out and learned how to play a game of soccer where the ball doesn’t move. So tough. Love the tournament spirit and really thankful they didn’t cancel. Also, very happy for today’s turf games!
