I would have waited it out until he was too tired to fight. Offered water but not food. Eventually he would have calmed down, or different negotiators could have come in. I don't think I would enter a room someone had barricaded themself in if they were no longer a harm to others.

Who knows, maybe the police officers and other personnel were concerned he was a danger to himself in there. I don't think they went in with bad intentions, I'm just curious for all the facts to come out.

Do you think there was any food in the 7-11?

How many days do we need to wait for his psychotic break to end or do we just give up and let him own the 7-11?

I don't personally know what was in the back room there- whether an office verses inventory. Do you?

What does this even mean?

It means that the cops will need to take a few stab wounds. Just one or two should be enough.

Did you read the article? The man barricaded himself in the store. Police fired multiple shots b/c he resisted and had a knife when they broke through barricade. It seems that bystanders reported he was homeless and having a mental health episode.

Mental health challenges explain violence with a knife, but do not excuse it.

A knife is a lethal weapon and you can defend yourself or others against someone with a knife by using another lethal weapon. Including a gun.

It sucks. But cops are not the enemy. Poor access to health care including mental health care is.

Correct, He died like a dog, he died like a coward.

Did we celebrate Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi ?

They were reckless, not cautious.

Said a reactionary cop hater that has no idea about the intricacies of the 7-11 situation and even less knowledge about the deadly force continuum.

This isn't just for the person shot here, there's a real mental health cost to a killing someone, witnessing a death, having to process death scenes, etc.

It doesn't mean every situation can be avoided but that doesn't mean we don't ask questions and figure out if we can't do more to keep these situations from ever happening in the first place.

I really agree with this. The officers involved have had their lives changed forever because of this incident. This doesn't just affect the man who was shot. Some situations can't be avoided, but shooting someone should be the absolute last resort. It just doesn't sound like that was the case here.

You don't like my solution. I want to lock up the severely mentally ill wandering our streets.
