Subject: “Public Ivy” University of Vermont
I went to UVM in the 90s & my kid goes there now. I went to grad school at CU Boulder & taught a bunch of classes there. UVM was head & shoulders above the undergrad education at CU Boulder. That's by design. However, UVM now is not as good as UVM was in the 90s. I'd recommend UVM for certain programs, but not overall. The Honors College was a huge disappointment.
I've seen Burlington's ups & downs for over four decades. The city is in a dark place. Maybe it has finally hit bottom. I'm not sure. As a college town, it's a minus, not a plus.

It was on the original list of public ivies (for whatever that’s worth), so this didn’t come out of nowhere.
The "original list" came from a book by some random dude. In terms of legitimacy, it was a step above an anonymous wanker posting it on DCUM.
The random dude was a Yale admissions officer. He thought private school education costs were getting too high so people should explore public options where they can get a private-school quality education at a public school price. That part is still relevant today. Vermont was in the original list 40 years ago, but Vermont has lagged in investing in higher education, and UVM is fairly heavily dependent on OOS students to make the finances work.

New poster. Anyone who uses the word "woke" in 2026 is trolling. Someone who says "Can a student who isn't woke thrive socially or will they face ostracization?" is starting a fight. I don't get why people ask these questions over and over. College students protest-they have since the beginning of time.
That might be true, but it's really only the geed losers spending their free time protesting. Maybe it was different in the 60s when there were actual civil rights issues worth marching for, but the free Palestine and no kings nonsense is so tiring. You never see touse kids out there constantly seeking things to be outraged about, and even bouse kids have much better social options than holding up signs and doing the same tired hey hey ho ho chants. When people like the PP say they don't want "woke" campuses, they mean they don't want that kind of environment to predominate.
Any adult who uses to use and bouse unironically doesn't belong in the conversation.
