This may be an unpopular opinion, but I believe HB sucks and is such a money grab. I would see if you can get connected to a college player that can train your daughter when she comes home on breaks or a local coach who played in college who can do private or small group lessons.

No you can’t watch the tryouts. You can’t even watch practice. Honestly you don’t need to, your kid either has this or they don’t.

There are not enough practices for a player to be developed, but HB will take your money and sometimes that helps, but really it comes down to how hard your player wants to work outside of practice. Certainly spending boat loads of money at HB isn’t the only option. Your kid has to want it. There are so many places your kid can train.

And be prepared to be offended. Every year a few favors are granted and kids that aren’t deserving end up on blue. In my child’s year those girls were never moved down despite one girl never running the 300s. One doesn’t even play at her top ISL school yet still plays on Capital Blue. Kids openly joke about it. It’s a very unfair club.

I would not do Capital Orange unless you are sure you want a school just for lacrosse. The coaches on the sidelines of the Orange games aren’t good. They will tell you they get every school out to see Orange, but coaches openly admit they don’t recruit from that team. You might get a unicorn once every few years, but don’t count on it.

The original question was about options if your daughter wants to keep playing club lacrosse but doesn't make either team at Capital.

If you're not willing to drive to Maryland for the Baltimore clubs, your local options are:

YJ VA (143rd)
YJ DMV (34th)
M&D DC (54th)
Stars (38th)

Pride is an interesting case that hasn't gotten much attention. Between their Loudoun (58th) and Northern VA (106th) teams, there's arguably enough talent to put together a really solid 2030 squad, but nobody seems to be talking about it.

Which connects to a point raised earlier: if enough bubble players land on the same team, can they hit a respectable ranking by freshman year? Someone mentioned 75th or better as the benchmark, though I'm not sure how widely that holds up.

Honestly, any of the teams above could be that team. It really comes down to how organized the bubble players and their families are about finding each other and coordinating.

1) How much is it?

2) What do you get for price you pay? Are they running drills/developing players or is it an all star team that spends practice time running plays?

For those trashing Yellow Jackets and praising the other DC teams as better, how do you explain that those teams (except for BLC) are all ranked lower than YJ DMV?
