I had a child at Sligo Creek (French) and another at Rock Creek Forest (Spanish). Ideally they would have been in the same language, but it was overall unproblematic for us. We counted ourselves lucky that the younger had the same opportunity as the older one. We didn’t have a transportation issue, though.

Not us (yet?), but we know a few families who do this. I understand why they got rid of the sibling link but I agree — I think there are better ways to run the lottery. Like a ranking system where you get the top choice still available if your number is drawn, for example. Good luck with your decision.

I don’t have info about Page but it varies so much both because of the number of available spaces / initial offers and also whether anyone drops in the fall, both of which can have big impacts. I wonder if they’d tell you how far they got last year, though.

Unless you live in Potomac, you’re not getting into PES.

We are completely outside the Potomac district and got in before the start of the school year for kindergarten with 19 as our waitlist number. We ended up declining due to distance and no immersion bus. (This was last year.)

We did receive an invitation two years ago in August, we were #54. They have two classes there, so you have a chance.

I think your chances are good.

I know they’ve gotten that high before, but I don’t know how consistently.

High on the waitlist that is

Which program?

Rock Creek Forest? I don’t have direct experience with that one, but I only hear good things. My experience with immersion in general is that families who are excited about the language really like it. Some families do it more on a lark and although that can work out great, it doesn’t always. IMO you have to be committed to helping your child in the language (even if you don’t speak it — that’s okay) because they will need lots of support finding reading material, etc. You need to trust the process and understand and accept that English language learning is taking a back seat for now. If that doesn’t sounds uncomfortable, the program might not be right for you.

Having half-immersion, half-not immersion schools feels like the kind of idea the Ted Danson character would come up with in the Good Place. Here's to six more years of being treated like a second class citizen in our own school.

Are you saying the other parents at your school look down on non-immersion students? Or that the administration and staff treat non-immersion students badly?

(Also, aren't immersion programs usually just one or at most two classes per grade, so a pretty small part of the school?)
