What team did your current coach tell you he was going to be making, before he went to jail or whatever happened?

He also said "Based on your family's commitment, and DS's coachability, we can figure out a situation where he trains at least once a week with 5th team and can be used as a guest player with the 5th team, while he continues his development with the 6th team. This will further DS's growth as a player, as well as allowing him to get more touches with the ball"

We have a GK tryout later this week with another club and won't make any decisions until we hear if we get an offer from that new club.

I am still kind of done with current club though. This whole process has just pissed me off with how it's been handled.

I cannot believe they are moving him down three teams at that age. They think you are suckers who will pay for any team but they are trying to bring in new paying customers from outside who won't settle for 6th teams.

If they are letting him in goal the whole game at his age, they are really failing to develop him as a player.

I would leave that club. Actually, I would give them vague assurances but not actually tell them we were leaving for as long as possible.

Very frustrating. Teams are always looking for young experienced goalies, I would call around to more than one club if possible.

I also hope your club isn't making a 9 year old specialized as a goalie. At that age, kids should really be playing in the field as well.

How tall is your son and how tall are you and your spouse. Are they looking at future height and realize he won’t be very tall?

Communication (or lack there of) is definitely what hurts clubs. This process sounds very frustrating.

Tomorrow (Tuesday). But DH is out of town and I have a work commitment so my mom is taking him. We have reached out to the coach again asking him to call before practice so we can get updates. We'll see if he responds.

They are trying to make sure all 6 teams have a kid willing to play GK and are waiting to put him on a team until they hear back from other kids.

This club gives 24 hours for families to respond to offers. Team 1 offers went out starting Friday 5/1. By Thursday 5/7, 4th and 5th team offers had gone out. So by now, Monday 5/11, all offers should have been accepted or rejected. It certainly feels like he's getting cut and everyone is too chicken to actually tell us.

Sadly, this can be true. Our club cut loyal families and didn't event tell them. We figured the kid was in jeopardy of being cut, but when it was time for the cleaver, they didn't even talk to the kids or families. Just no offer for next year. I think that is not the right approach. As a standard, they should let you know you are on the bubble and then bring you in to talk to the family/ kid to say sorry at least.

There's no way that's the situation here. The kid plays goalie the whole game for the 3rd team out of 6 teams. They are trying to see which team doesn't have anyone who wants to play Goalie to slot him in.

And were fine if that's the case and they are still figuring out if they have a place for him. Just tell us that!

I'd be surprised if the 24 hours is actually enforced. We've held onto offers from days to weeks. Sometimes parents have questions for the coaches. Sometimes, they may want a chance to practice with the team or coach. If it is a player external to the club, there is more incentive to bring them in.

There's no way he's getting cut if he plays goalie at u10 and is on the 3rd of 6th team now.

Just because the email says 24 hours doesn't mean they enforce it for kids they want.

The offer process took much longer at our club this year because of the age change. There may be many things going on behind the scenes and it would be great if the club communicated with you but I rarely find clubs to be good at communicating.

If you think he’s going to be cut, start looking for other options. If he ends up with an offer at his original club that’s great. If not, you’ll be ready to move on… and that may be best given this coach’s behavior.
