Clearly they see this thread and see that we’re waiting. MCPS and the Board, jerking people around like this and not telling us or even the GEC what’s happening with compacted math is not okay. Not in the slightest.
Bumping this so it doesn’t get lost at the end of a page. MCPS is being so sneaky about this.
Everything in tomorrow's work session meeting is for discussion -- votes only take place in Board Business meetings, which are once a month. The last Board Business Meeting was only a week ago.
That it is a discussion doesn't mean there aren't presentations. Other discussion items on the agenda already have presentations uploaded, for example the policies being discussed at 1:20. Just because it is a discussion item does not absolve MCPS from posting the presentation in advance.
100% agree. But they added the “(oral discussion)” qualifier at about 4:30 today (I’ve been reloading the site throughout the day). I suspect because people are looking for the deck…
They so clearly want to keep parents in the dark so we can't weigh in prior to the meeting.
With or without the deck I (and many other 4th grade compacted math parents I know) wrote to the board to please consider what they’re doing to our kids in the middle of this track. I guess we’ll see tomorrow afternoon what next steps we have to take. But the fact is most of the parents I talked to about this had any idea that it was even a possibility compacted would be impacted next year. The transparency around all of this is piss poor.
I think they will keep 5/6 next year for the students taking 4/5 this year. The question is what happens to the current grade 3 students. I don't know that 4/5 next year will be the same -- if it's offered at all.

They usually post materials for "oral discussions"-- see i.e. the last 3 items at the work session last month: https://go.boarddocs.com/mabe/mcpsmd/Board.nsf/goto?open&id=DN3SAM71AE00
I think "oral discussion" just means "this is not something the Board is going to vote on."

I assure you neither Taylor nor the BOE GAF
That's obvious given they clearly don't care how many kids they will screw over with whatever they're planning with this acceleration and enrichment plan... they just care about keeping the info locked down so they can limit how much parents can push back.
I love how it’s assumed that anyone is going to be screwed over when nothing has been posted, when state policy requires acceleration beginning in 3rd now, and when the upcoming Integrated Algebra is supposed to be done in two years not three. Least of all is implementation of a new curriculum.
