If your HS senior doesn't know how to handle his friends insulting him then he's got big maturity issues. He should not need your help with this. It shouldn't even register as a problem for him to tell you about.

I had a mom, who I’ve only talked to twice before this incident last weekend, tell me the two students she knows who went to my DCs school “transferred out after a year for various reasons” after asking where mine was attending.

I went home and unfriended this mom on social, who added me to begin with by the by and went on with my day.

These happiness-drains of human beings are not worth space in our lives.

When people on DCUM get snooty about schools and/or majors after parents excitedly post about their kids future paths, I say the same thing to myself.

Some people are just miserable fukks. Can’t be helped, can’t change them. Best to pity or ignore them.

I would dismiss his friend's comments as a "kid thing." Kids (whether they're 15 or 50) can be very narrow-minded. Perhaps your kid could point out to him that Austin is a very liberal city, that Texas is more purple than red, and that there's plenty of variety amongst Texas' almost 32 million citizens.

You seriously have to crowd source how to deal with rude people? Come on, OP. You can handle this.

Your kid should say: “I’m going to a potentially purple state and try to help get Democrats like Talarico elected. Trumpie propaganda has persuaded you to go to a college in a place your vote will have no impact whatsoever.”
