Wagamama

Why go to London for something you can get in Clarendon?

This place is not going to make any list of "best" restauarants but I thought the food was actually really good and the atmosphere was awesome -- perfect after you've been touring the British Museum and are ready to just sit and eat.

Not this American. But I am of Indian heritage. I didn’t get the hype at all. It was totally fine but nothing special.

+1 (also American of Indian heritage). It was good but not the best thing ever (but was better than Rasika). Agree with a PP that apps were better than mains.

For more casual Indian, we really enjoyed Gunpowder and Hoppers. I really love how the Indian restaurants there are more focused on a particular area of India, rather than just the butter chicken etc. we get here as "Indian". That is starting to change here too, but not as fast as I would like. There is so much more to it than that.

+2 We were also not too impressed with Dishoom. Also of south asian heritage.

Tukdin near Paddington for great Malaysian food (get the eggplant dish)

Hoppers for Sri Lankan food (like Indian but a little different)

Dishoom was good, not amazing. Skip the black daal that they recommend, it was just whatever.

A lot of the markets around the city have really amazing looking food, so check out the food stalls too. I wish I had more time (and was with more foodie/fatty friends) to try it all.

Crumpets. It's a cafe between Victoria Station and Buckingham Palace.

My favorite is the restaurant at the top of the Tate Modern. Second is Locatelli in the National Gallery. Been to both multiple times.

We often go to wagamama in England even though we have one in the DC area (Arlington) now. Casual but reliable.

My friend lived right around the corner from the Churchill arms- many happy memories of Thai food and stumbling around the corner to sit on her front steps. Thanks for mentioning!

Fallow was excellent recently for a quick lunch - shared caesar salad and hallibut - plus its near shopping. Also ate at Catherine Street for Sunday Roast, which was good but service was spotty. Had really good fish and chips at a small pub called The Swan near Russell Square/ Bloomsbury.

My London friends rave over Fallow.
