9K. Family of 5, Maui. From the west coast. 2BR/2BA condo, rental SUV, ate breakfast and some lunches in. No expensive excursions- mostly just hit the beaches & explored.

We did a vacation with our 2 teens. Spent 200k. We did travel privately and stay in exclusives though.

Family of 5- Phoenix, Grand Canyon, Antelope canyon, Sedona. $4k but used points for flights.

Roughly $10,000 all-in which feels obscene to type but it was worth it.

$10.5k to Japan, 7 days/nights, 2 adults, 1 tween. Booked ~3 months out.
- $6,300 flights (from west coast, economy w/seat selection)
- $1,800 hotels (3n Tokyo, 3n Kanazawa)
- $850 ryokan (1 night in mountains, included private spa, omakase style dinner, and breakfast—worthwhile splurge!)
- $500 ground transportation (metro, bullet train)
- $600 food (and we ate very well, though not super high end except for the omakase dinner)
- $600 memories (tour, plus all.the.snacks)🍡🍵🍣🍜

I was surprised by how reasonable the on-the-ground experiences were.

We were lucky and had good timing for the cherry blossoms. I loved it, I used to get to see the blossoms around the tidal basin from the Potomac at sunrise every year…sigh. All so lovely! 🌸🌸🌸

We moved around a lot. One night in each Arizona spot, 3 in Zion, and 2 in Vegas. Weather was perfect. Warm, but not sweltering. Kids are 12 and 15, so plenty able to do the more active things all day. We listened to 4 audio books on the trip to make the drives easier. Grand Canyon was a huge hit (we hiked down the Bright Angel Trail about 3 miles round trip)- stayed in one of the lodges in the park. We mostly did cheap Hampton Inns, but stayed at the Mandalay Bay in Vegas so the kids could have a relaxing pool day. We ate dinner in the car late one night in Sedona so we could stargaze- they loved that. We got the best pictures in Antelope Canyon (wish I had made everyone dress less slouchy that day). Our kids had never been out west or seen large mountains/canyons, etc. So they were very excited about it all. It was a very active vacation, and different from our normal preference for cities/museums/etc. So glad we went.

Trip to PR for one adult and two kids for 6 nights:
Flights - $1,200
Hotel - N/A; stayed for free
Rental Car - $600
Food - maybe $400?
Beach Parking Fee - $6 x 2

What airline did you fly? I am looking for later this year and can’t find anything from DC area close to $2000 including baggage fees and cabs.
