Also lol at the MIT alum excoriating the social scene at Harvard.
MIT frats throw the parties in Boston...you'd know that if you went to college in Boston.
MIT is in Cambridge, not Boston. You’d know that if you went to MIT!
Um, okay. Boston in PPs post refers to the whole area and all the colleges within, including MIT and Harvard which are in Cambridge. BC in chestnut hill, Tufts in Somerville, even Wellesley out in the town Wellesley. Your post is the one that shows you didn’t go to school in Boston.

This. Stupid
Why is it stupid? I know a Yalie who turned down Harvard. Was waitlisted at Yale but eventually got in and took it over Harvard. Yale is a much nicer place to go to college. But I'm biased.

It’s interesting that very few here who are anti-Harvard actually attended. It’s always my kid’s friend or my friend or some such. In any case, Harvard and MIT typically battle it out for highest yield each year, with Princeton and Yale not really in the running. They must be doing something right, or maybe it’s just the allure of Cambridge.

Specifically why it sucks - social scene sucks. The kids I met were egotistical trust fund babies. Professors in the sciences/engineering were subpar. Then of course you have a rotten culture that allows professors like Larry Summers to continue to be involved because money talks louder than ethics.
Grad school at Harvard is a lot better than undergrad IMO. The only reason to go as an undergrad is for "connections" but the vibe of the people there is just way off IMO.
If the professors are subpar (any specific examples?) why would it be better for grad school?

Would love to hear from people about recent experiences at Harvard, especially around campus culture, how collaborative vs competitive students are (both in classes and clubs), and what social life looks like on weekends. Are students happy there? What are the reasons to choose Harvard over another college?
Any insight into internship opportunities and recruiting early on would be really helpful too. DC is outgoing, social, and very athletic, so trying to get a sense of overall fit.
