Near term, there will be struggles. For some reason, they decided to give Woodward the worst magnet combo a school can get. As a result, most advanced students from Farmland/Luxmanor will be applying to the humanities magnet at WJ, and most advanced students from WW/VM will be applying to the STEM magnet at Wheaton (in part to also avoid a long commute). I hope whoever they select to be the new principal will have a strategy to fight this dynamic. After all, school's success is closely tied to the quality of students attending it.

I’m just a few blocks between the WJ and Einstein dividing line and know nothing is changing with my zoning. I just tried to find a map of the boundaries for Woodward out of curiosity, but couldn’t find a final one. Can someone please provide a link?
The last two pages have maps of the approved boundaries:

Maybe not everyone is eyeballing FARMS rates so closely, and the catch of being zoned to a brand new high school located in North Bethesda with plenty of students coming from Bethesda will fuel the perception that Woodward is just another "W" school, and perhaps real estate in the Viers Mill area will start to reflect that. I heard that the areas of Silver Spring zoned to BCC gentrified a lot because they are zoned to BCC, so I'm wondering if we'll see something similar happen to real estate in DCC areas moving to Woodward.

MCPS selects the most boring architects. Check out some of the redone high schools in DCPS. So much more interesting looking.
I agree. The design of Woodward is not compelling and the same is true for Northwood.

However, I will be selling my property and buying at WJ district. This is my personal choice due to my very sensitive kid whose friends are staying at WJ and she supposed to leave for Woodward. Yes, I will loose money, yes it sucks. But I prioritize my kid mental health and comfort
No judgement at all, but how do you expect your daughter to handle going to college and the real world if your response to her being redistricted is selling your house to “protect her mental health”?
I purposely chose to not have my kids raised in that "world".
But everyone's real world is different.
There are people that can live their entire lives in a bubble. Growing up in a country club lifestyle and living that way all through the life.
These people also tend to go to very prestigious/exclusive colleges and for their careers work surrounded by similar people.
So while it may not be your world, it's their "real world".
Like I said, I purposely didn't want my kids to live in that type of world. But no one should be judging on who's world is the real or right one.
And hey for all of the virtue signalling from Dr. Taylor and Dr. Starr, just wanted to point out that they still chose to live in the richest part of the county. If diversity and equity was such a big deal to them, shouldn't they make sure that their families live in the "real world" too?
Lady your house isn't being reassigned to Woodward for equity. It's because WJ and multiple nearby high schools are wildly overcrowded
I actually wasn't referring to the topic of this thread. But more so all of the other programs/initiatives that they expressed support for. Such as the regional models or yes, if they're doing anything to try to balance out demographics/performance at schools. Maybe not necessarily at Woodward but at other schools/programs.
Sounds like you really want to black Black and Latino people for your choice to sell your house and move even though they have literally nothing to do with that.
No. Actually in previous/earlier threads I suggested if MCPS really wanted to be equitable they could look into allocating seats or percentages to students from specific schools.
For example, there's no representation from the NEC to the Blair magnet program? Then allocate like 15 spots just for the students from the NEC.
MCPS isn't doing anyone any favors in dumbing down programs and curriculum or just mix student groups to balance out test scores but not help students improve proficiency. Because it all ends up showing in standardized tests, college and afterwards.

This was requested by WJ parents.
I am not sure what you think WJ parents requested other than that everyone currently assigned to WJ go to either WJ or Woodward and parity between the two schools. And it's comical that you think WJ families get what they want - they've been asking for relief from overcrowding for over 10 years, and for relief from overcrowding for Ashburton ES for over 15 years

I'd say give it a year or two to see what the admin in place is like before immediately jumping to pull your kids.
Who knows, maybe it ends up being another "W" school.
It will. Within 8 years the roles will reverse and it will surpass WJ in stature.

What on earth does that have to do with you wanting to sell your house?
I didn't say anything about selling a house.
I said that there are different worlds and no one's world is necessarily the real/right world. It's just different worlds and it's fine.
BUT with all of the talk about Joshua Starr and Thomas Taylor being champions for equity and diversity, they choose to live isolated in the richest parts of the county and their families wouldn't be affected by any of the proposed changes. Anything coming from them would just be based off of theory or numbers. And they really live in a different world but making judgement and decisions for people living in others.
I was originally responding back to the poster who said that some former WJ families mixing with Woodward families would be good for them because they'd get more exposed to the real world. But did veer off in a tangent a little bit. But honestly Taylor and Starr are in their own little worlds too.[/quote
Oh so you aren't the person who said "I will be selling my property and buying at WJ district"? Yet you responded to posts as if you were.
