"Footprints and flags" are a small part of what NASA does and as a standalone mission it doens't change the world. But as part of our ongoing exploration they're a critical next step.


Speaking of federal tax dollars, the idiot in charge is trying to reduce the IRS budget by $1.4B, which is going to even further cripple that agency. Do I think if $24.4B hadn't been allocated to NASA that the Republicans wouldn't try to slash funding to the IRS? No. Does it hurt more that so much money is being spent elsewhere instead of on a lot of things that would benefit our country, which is hurting terribly right now? Yes.

I think it's admirable, but naive, that you think our institutions will remain in place. You do know that Trump has absolute designs on being a dictator. You do know that he's said that once he's elected there won't be a need to ever vote again, right? You do know that under his administration he has dismantled many institutions and norms that we assumed will always be there, right? You know that he's declared war on a free press, right? Just wait until he declares a national emergency and tries to cancel the midterms. Wake up, PP. You are not living in normal times. Trump has cracked the very foundation of our remarkable democratic experiment that is only 250 years old. We are very young. Every civilization has fallen. Our time is here.

lots of talk about this and it is awesome. the problem is the world is burning, we have madman at the helm, and it's hard to be proud to be an American right now (in my opinion) and focus on frivolous luxuries like space travel when the world is on a path to literal destruction. We are the bully, the invader, the criminal.

If you're worried about money going to the military industrial complex, NASA isn't who you need to worry about. Look at what else is happening in the world these days.


These days? Stuff is always happening in the world. Sometimes we pay attention to it and sometimes we don’t. Money is always going somewhere. I’d like some of it to go to space.
