Ohio! I visit my daughter 3-4 times a year and I just love the atmosphere. Strangers are nice! I always feel a sense of disappointment when I return to Maryland.

Nice is a tough word. I don't know exactly how to define it.
New Yorkers and New Englanders are not friendly but there is a real sense of solidarity. People help at the first sign of trouble.
People in Southern states are friendly but I just don't trust it. It feels so fake to me. I don't feel like the Southern friendliness is consistent - it depends who you are and what you look like and sometimes if you just left the room.
