AI can definitely replace most doctors. You input symptoms, imaging, vitala, labs, etc, and it will be able to make diagnoses better than a human.

Basic medicine doesn’t change all that much. It can be done by AI. And not only that, AI can cosntantly learn from new research while a human can barely read one journal article per day.

You have to remember this is the infancy of AI. It will get exponentially better as time progresses. 10 years from now I wouldn't doubt at all AI becomes better than most doctors. Look how much cell phones have advanced since 2010. Hospitals and healthcare admins will demand it to drastically cut labor costs.

The vast majority of physicians are better than AI any day, but AI is better than most physician assistants / nurse practitioners.

My DS and DD are in first year of medical school with student loan debt at public universities, and this really scares me. My younger brother is working for an AI company specializing in radiology that can do a much better job than a radiologist.

How is AI supposed to do a physical exam on someone?

How is AI supposed to argue a case in front of a judge?

But, very soon lots of humans will die due to war, climate change and pandemics. So, if your kid survives and has good solid educational background...they will be in high demand.

I don't know what medicine is going to look like in 5-10 years, but I generally think it will be worse for both patients and doctors...and AI will be part of the excuse for making it work.

Right now, it already takes forever to see a specialist. And cost-cutting is everywhere. I broke my foot, and I the only doctor I've seen in person was at urgent care. My initial follow up with the podiatrist was virtual, and now my 6w follow up is also virtual. They had me get an xray on my own. There will be no physical exam. I know enough to know what kinds of questions to ask and where to point out pain/bruising, but they really should do a physical exam. I am also checking with AI what I should be sure to ask about.

AI is only going to put more pressure on doctors to see more patients faster. And patients will rely more on AI to ask about symptoms, because doctors will be even more rushed and less available. Important stuff will get missed, and any personal element that's been left in healthcare will be diminished completely.

Meh. I am a lawyer and would never hire an AI for a legal need I had. I can see it being a tool but I would always want the actual lawyer advising me and helping me think through the issues.

When AI stops hallucinate cases and laws, we can maybe start talking. Right now -- a lawyer still has to check every cite and read every case. AI might help with research, but it's not replacing the lawyer.

Just create an AI to check. What could possibly go wrong.

How's AI supposed to perform a physical exam, palpitations a stomach, look in someone's ears, do developmental questions with an anxious kid, etc?

We won’t have to worry about whether AI lawyers and medical doctors are better than human doctors. The logical conclusion is that humans are inefficient, being both problematic and unnecessary for the future of AIs. Without humans, legal and medical services are unnecessary.

I'm a lawyer who's seen AI work and it's a giant mess. Hallucinates like crazy, leads people entirely wrong. Maybe it will, but for now it's making messes that are taking more attorney time to fix. Legalzoom and their ilk were supposed to put lawyers out of business and largely did the same thing.
