I can relate. And this board is full of people who try to engineer their children's friendships like this.

Life is random and your encounters with strangers are unpredictable. If you encounter something that is just too far out of line the first few times you go to a sleepover, you are going to logically conclude that they are unsafe and avoid them.

Yep. My first sleepover- I was 7 or 8 and my friend showed me her creeper dad’s playboy stash and started cutting out pictures of naked women. I’ll never forget it- I was very disturbed by that and didn’t want to go on sleepovers again.

Not often- 10yo DS has a good group of friends but they aren't really into sleepovers, although DS was asking about inviting a couple to "camp" in the backyard once it gets warmer.

My younger DD would like to have more but she's mostly friends with boys and although I think they're all young enough where mixed genders are not a bit deal the boy parents don't seem comfortable with the idea so I dropped it. I know she feels left out because a couple of the boys have sleepovers on their own. Hopefully she'll have some more girl friends in the future.

You don't know that there weren't issues. My parents don't know anything that happened at the sleepovers I did as a kid. A lot of wild stuff. In my 30s and they still don't know lol

Never, besides with grandparents. This isn't the 90s. 9 yr old and 7 yr old here. Maybe once they are 15 or so. Don't you people worry about CSA?

Once or twice a month. Late elementary.

The friends she asks for sleepovers with are friends we know the parents well or she has known the kids a long time. We have a few kids in the neighborhood so it’s often last minute “can we have a sleepover” during a late afternoon play date. We are fine with that. It keeps everyone busy and generally doing something active or creative.
