Sign up for the pest control as often as possible.
Pest control in individual apartment won’t help if the whole building is infested
Most apartment treat all the units a few times a year and you have to pay for it now too.

There is a 2 years wait list to live here. Despite the roaches and perhaps the ethnic/demographic background of most tenants that some may have an issue with the place is a steal.
So I don't want to leave. Now recently I started recently and she hates coming to my place. She doesn't like the building, she doesn't like that from time to time it needs to be treated for roaches and I feel like at some point she may suggest we move in together or I find a better place.
Folks only paying $2200 rent on a take home pay of $11200 I won't move. And I am not even thinking about buying a house unless I get expelled from this place lol.
Would you move to a "nicer" place if your rent was this low.
I pay roughly what you're paying and I own a townhouse with no roaches. Doesn't seem ideal.
But I would like to move to a single family home since we have young kids now. However that would mean either tripling my mortgage or liquidating almost all investments to buy in cash. I'm hoping that within a few years I'll be in a better position to move up in houses before our oldest is 5.
Good for you for not overextending yourself. I just have a bad feeling...We bought in August 2020 a $1600 sqft split level for 460k and we just sold it (moving to a different state) for 765k this past January 20206.. We did not do a single renovation and or improvement. I don't know I'll just caution people buying today. If you can't afford cash or 40% down just wait.

It's possible that you and what I am taking is a new dating person (sentence was unclear) you might not be on the same page in terms of lifestyle. Some people just need/want a more gracious living situation than one that has noticeable roaches. I understand they are pretty much unavoidable entirely, but the question is realistically how often do you see them?
+1
Anyone over 30 needs to be well on their way to home ownership. And I would never date someone that lived in an apartment like OP described unless they were a student. Period.
When I got married DH moved us into a small townhouse and that caused many arguments. I don’t want to live attached to others - I need a house in a city.
Anonymous wrote:AbsoLUTELY! I live in a crappy shoebox of an apartment with barely any kitchen counter space, and oven that only partially works, no dishwasher, no bathtub, no vanity space in the bathroom, no natural light. Living here makes me feel poor. I have rent control, so I'm stuck.

Anonymous wrote:Dude. Do you want a girlfriend or not?
You can have your roaches, or you can have a girlfriend. Roaches are cheaper than a girlfriend, but most people prefer the girlfriend to roaches. That's what I'd pick at least.
But it's up to you. You pick roaches, well, enjoy your roaches.
