The Rs are welcome to run some non-crazy people and dump their insane orange god-king. Until that time, there’s no other choice.

I vote with my wallet, not based on social progressivism. High taxes are anathema. One party is the tax-and-spend party. I vote the other way, because other issues are mere background noise.

As reflected in the last election, overwhelming majority of Virginians don’t want insane people running their government. Feel free to ignore that and keep losing.

The shutdown was convenient. Amazing how they ended up compromising right after the VA and NJ elections.

Amazing the Rs still haven’t figured out why they lost

They lost so bad that Trump won the popular vote

Trump won the VA gubernatorial election?

No, he didn't. Musk rigged the computers. This is pretty common knowledge.

You live in an alternate reality.

I am an Independent usually vote Blue since the Reds have gone nuts.
But Arlington really shows me the Dems love to tax and spend even in this uncertain time. When taxpayers are pressed, increasing the social safety net isn't equitable imo. I vote for non Dems for the Board as protest.

You mean their tariffs-obsessed insane orange god-king.

Trump imposed the biggest tax increase on Americans in US history and these yokels love it but whine about a meals tax?

Quislings, the lot of them.

Its just not worth going out to eat. My income only grew this year by 3%. Our family of 4 looks like we have it together but these potential tax increases (I am in VA) stress me out. I've stopped donating money, giving to church and schools.

Chuys. There's two entrees, one kid's meal. I don't want the rice/beans so my order is a la carte and saves like $5.

I'm good with it. What's your problem?

DP
+1
The real estate tax rate remained flat and I voted in favor of the meals tax when it was on the ballot.

Great, because people will be subtracting this "meals tax" out of the tips. People don't like to suddenly pay more. And this also can result in people reducing spending on prepared meals, since unlike RE tax, it's not mandatory.

It's 1%. Does it really make a difference in your life?

DP. Meals tax is not 1%, it is 4%. Total sales tax on meals is now 10%. Then you are supposed to tip another 20%. Then many of the restaurants we go to raised prices at the start of the year. A $40 meal a year ago is now $55 for a family of 4 at our favorite place. It's all compounded together. Instead of going every weekend like we used to, we're now skipping some weeks.

I think that at this point, they are just trying to skim as much as they can from every simple aspect of life, and it's likely not going to get better. And in addition, we aren't having any serious conversations on reducing income tax burdens of people working for a living, raising standard deduction to allow people to earn to live first before paying taxes.
