The wait list only moved 3 spots since Day 1 so we are assuming that it reflects students who were waitlisted ahead of us who withdrew, since my daughter knows of more than 3 kids who turned down the initial offer. My guess is that after tomorrow's deadline, a batch of offers will be "released" as a group based on rejected offers, and the next set of students will get 5 days to accept/reject their offer. Or maybe that is wishful thinking on our part!

Only the freshman class will be 250. The sophomore and junior classes are around 125 each. The plan this year is to keep those classes the same size. The school size will increase each year as the new freshman classes move up.

The waitlist has not moved at all for DC this week. They are in the 30's. Will we see the waitlist move after the deadline passes tomorrow night? Seems like that has been the case if students in the 90's have gotten off the list in years prior, but I'm surprised it hasn't moved more this week. Or is AT more desirable this year with the new building and publicity it's received? Looking forward to hearing from others how your position moves in the coming days/weeks/months.

You mean the wait list has moved to offers around what was initially number 30? I’m confused since other PP said they only moved 2 spots total!? How could that be? We just gave up our spot on the wait list. It seemed too high (40s) and had moved only that first day and then not again.

I think they meant their child is waitlisted in the 30s, and the list has not moved this week.

Each grade is going from 100 students to 250 students? Correct me, if wrong, it might be happening year-by year.

AT parent here. I think on average, the class sizes are about the same as my other kid at our neighborhood HS, but because there might be just one or two sections of a class, some might be huge and some might be tiny. The school definitely feels smaller, with staff knowing all the kids by name.

+1

We've seen a mix of class sizes, but overall have been really impressed with the "small" feel. My kid has been really well supported by most teachers. In her largest class, the teacher has gone out of his way to work with the kids, offering to stay after school to help kids who might need extra review. They also have offered extra math help on weekends.

It's not perfect but overall we've been really impressed with the school.

My kid got waitlisted for both, Arlington Tech and HB. Surprisingly, he moved 5 spots at HB, while at AT he moved only 2.

Interesting! Maybe Arlington Tech will be the hot new school with the fancy new building.

My daughter got in, but we are 50/50 right now. I think my daughter would thrive at Arlington Tech, but she was turned off by the engineering class requirement on our recent tour (not a math lover.) One question I am trying to figure out is whether Arlington Tech has smaller class sizes than the comprehensive high schools.

All that said, the waitlist will definitely move after this week’s deadline, and I know that most kids usually get off the waitlist as other kids weigh the advantages and drawbacks of their
choices. Best of luck!

There isn’t a lot of math in it. Lots of projects, building things.

We were the waitlist 69 family. Daughter was very interested, and the program looked amazing, so we applied. But she didn't get in. I didn't know if she would get off the waitlist, so we started getting her excited about yorktown in case she didn't get into AT. We told her that it would be easier this way to make her less disappointed that she didn't get in.

By the time she did get in, she was excited enough about yorktown to be ok with turning down AT. We also agreed that it might be good to leave the spot for someone whose kid really needed a smaller program or who wanted the specialized majors.
