That’s criminal. Now this kid has to pay OOS tuition after doing everything right. He should have gotten into VT. It’s simply yield protection. And I said what I said. We have no dog in this fight. My kid didn’t apply to any instate (VA) schools and is attending her first choice SLAC.

Doing everything right? You have no idea the caliber of schools these kids go to. One could be a St Albans type school and one could be an easy public that allows multiple makeups

Oh stop

Should’ve applied EA

GPA is too low. Last year's class had a 4.33 at the 75th percentile, and a 4.14 at the median. Especially if applying for engineering or unhooked.

I also think th 1590 indicates the GPA could and should have been higher.

This, exactly. a 1590 is an exceptional SAT score. a 4.1 is not an exceptional GPA. The disconnect can make AOs think the kid didn't try/didn't care about classwork/grades.

Plus all of the other pieces we have talked about ad nauseum - ECs, VT essays.

To me it says ADHD.

Or a boy that took a bit longer to mature. Not uncommon for smart boys to have lower grades in 9th and 10th and high grades once they reach 11th.

My ds has a very high rigor but his sports take up a lot of his time and he gets burnt out end of the day… thus has few Bs.
But high SAT.
Waitlisted.

What’s criminal is you being unable to recognize that the PP is trolling. Also, curious why you’re on this thread at all, given your last sentence?

This is exactly what I was thinking. Sounds like a twice exceptional kid; gifted, but has executive functioning differences or ADHD. I am a high school teacher and see this frequently.

How much weight do they put on their essays on this example of a case? 4.1 and 1590?
What does the waitlist for this kind of case look like?

Congrats! My son was accepted to both VT and UVA too. What major is your kid thinking about pursuing?

Chemistry (but not pre-med).
