It’s pure conspiracy theory to suggest Reid played a masterful game of 4D chess to rig things against Oak Hill. A name that isn’t all that known or recognized outside a few of the 20171 zip code residents who don’t want to be called Herndon.

What students?

What's your point? It's not like most of us in 20171 could tell you where West Springfield, Lake Braddock, South County, or any other geographically named high school is. The school is for us, it should be named for our community. It shouldn't be given a name that belongs in a cartoon.

Actually, I live in 20171 and I have been to every one of those schools you named. If your kid does any sports, you likely have, too. I had been to all of them when my kid was doing youth sports for events.

I like Frying Pan High.

But let's get real and call it Bad Bunny High school.

1. Skyview was not second highest overall.

2. No one (except you) is suggesting there is a conspiracy theory.

3. Reid and the SB suggested some off-the-wall names. They could've kept the regional names.

4. Oak Hill is a PART of Herndon, just as Dupont Circle is a PART of DC, Greenwich Village is a PART of New York, etc. It helps people recognize which part of the area is being referenced. They have their own Oak Hill post office, after all.

It was #2 at the open houses and Reid did not include it in the options. That is a conspiracy?

And, as for "not wanting to be called Herndon," why don't you look at a map--it is not Herndon.
It is not a slam at Herndon, it is a slam at geography.

Why does this offend people?

Ummm….but this school is mainly for 20171 residents, no?

It’s hardly a conspiracy theory. Reid could have picked Oak Hill, Floris, Sully, Dulles, Frying Pan, etc., but she didn’t pick ANY regional name.

agreee

+1 more who lives in the area. This is not what the community wants. And, why did she not go with a local name? I prefer Oak Hill, but Floris, Horsepen Run, Sully, Frying Pan. Something that defines the local community.

You’ve been pushing that silly name forever now. Let it go! It will never be Horsepen Run and wasn’t even on the initial list. It sounds like a freakin barn!

It beats Skyview.

And Carson was designed to become a secondary.

That would be amazing because then Carson MS kids will have the same start time as the HS.

Yep. It was number 2 and didn't make Reid's list. The community chose it when they opened the post office. It was a vote. Makes no sense.

Oak Hill is the name that makes the most sense and that is most meaningful to the community. It has historical relevance.

Skyview is a ludicrous name, as are most of the other random names that made the final list, most of which had 0-2 votes in the original survey.

Reid eliminated Oak Hill because using the place for the name makes it seem more like every other traditional school. She is still bitter about not getting that "look what I did" achievement of creating a new magnet. She is trying to give it a special name and pretend having a few classes as a pathway is the same thing. Desperate for some achievement to cling to when she finally gets fired for how terrible everything else has gone under her watch.

She and McDaniel need to get over themselves. This school is a community high school, not a magnet for astronomy, aviation, astronautics, or anything else. It needs a community name. People in this community typically have zero identity related to the airport or the Udvar Hazy museum.

Dixit is the one who has now made the motion to name the school Skyview, not McDaniel.

But, Reid was the one who left Oak Hill off the list.

+1

The most logical name was illogically left off the list.

Reid won't be superintendent forever, but the school will forever be part of the community. Name it after the community!
