My kid has similar stats, received an admission offer within days of applying, and has so far been offered up to $40k merit ("up to" bc $10k is contingent on NMSF becoming NMF.)

Perfect safety.

This does sound like a good idea. If she's sure she wants med school, I'd apply to all guaranteed admit programs that are possible. I think Rochester has one. Maybe Pitt?

actually yes. it's 60% female and 63% white. With excellent med school placement. One of the best in the country. It's fine.

I dont think you should consider Rhodes circa 1985.

Rhodes is 10% African American, 9% Asian, 7% Hispanic, 5% multiracial, and 3% international students. Really low international numbers, but do people care about this?

If you are looking at Minnesota, you are probably going to look at Carleton. But I would recommend you take the time to take a look at St. Olafs It is a safety that your kid will love.

We live in a Red state and she doesn't like our state. I don't know if it's wise to pay $90K for some of the safeties that don't offer merit aid. GPA is 4.0; SAT is 1520; extracurriculars with focus on gender studies/public health type, community-oriented theme.

School counselor is mentioning as safeties: Skidmore and Connecticut College, but these schools do not seem particularly diverse, racially.

DD is at a girls' private so not loving as safeties: Bryn Mawr and Barnard. Oberlin is too artsy and maybe Wesleyan also too artsy.


OP, it is hard for very strong students to get safeties they like but it is really important. I think the best is a state school honors college. The other option is to take a step down in selectivity and look at liberal arts schools. But make sure to visit and show a lot of interest because they will track it.

I highly recommend Scripps as a safety. It’s a women’s college but it’s in the consortium with four co-ed colleges at the same place.

Every college ranges from libertarian don't give a fig over what you do as long as you don't interfere with me, to over the top affirming, to completely elevating anyone who fits into those groups.

None of those labels are seen as anything but a positive, or at least neutral, at every campus in this country.

The only label I would focus on for your daughter is neurodivergent. Make sure whatever school she applies to definitely has support services for neurodivergent kids and they just don't pay it lip service.
