She was close with her mom. This was not her fault. Elderly parents are free agents. Check the Eldercare board and you will see many of us have elders who want to age in place. Check yourself.

No, not gated.

I’m from Tucson too and my elderly mom also lives in Catalina foothills but way on east side. I’m guessing savannahs mom is over on northwest side though, closer to the malls? That’s where most of the larger lots are.

Also from Tucson (that makes three of us- what are the odds…)

I live in the foothills - Nancy lives in a neighborhood just south of La Encantada and the intersection at Skyline/Campbell.

How do you know where she lives? Is that common knowledge in the local area? If so, that really makes her a soft target. I hope she is returned quickly and safely.

Yes, relatively common knowledge but not of great interest to most people either. A fair number of celebrity adjacent people live in this particular area. Adam Sandler’s sister lives in the same general area (leading to a lot of Adam Sandler sightings).

I hope she is returned quickly. It is really hard to see a why anyone would harm an elderly lady.

Yes, it's hard to imagine, but you aren't a criminal. Money is a such a motivator.

This is unrelated to Guthrie's situation, but does relate to the elderly-think twice about putting detailed obituaries online and, in the newspaper, and about making videos of funerals public. They are a goldmine for criminals. They can even use AI to mimic voices to make ransom calls. Had a relative scream at us for not putting an obituary out when the spouse was still alive. I explained what happened with inlaws (long story) and friends of the family and she calmed down. Even if both have passed, you are making yourself a target even if you don't include your names and your children's names. I know it's sad not being able to honor them this way, but you honor them at the funeral and can write private obituaries just for loved ones.

Obituaries are very helpful later on for genealogists. Please consider putting them out privately but making them public after the people in them have died?

I don’t know (I sort of doubt it) but my mom’s community is gated because it’s a golf course community and it’s super easy to get in. You basically just need to say you are doing an Amazon delivery for someone or an uber pickup. So long as you have a name and address I don’t think they call to check.

+1

just because someone is elderly, it doesn’t mean they don’t have a full life or that they want to drop everything to live near their adult children (who are probaly busy with their own lives)

Any person with means in Tucson I’d say there is a 50/50 chance they live in that area. Tucson is generally a great place for elderly people with mobility issues and I’m sure Savannah visits regularly. She also has other local family since it says family had seen her at Saturday at 9:30 (probably had dinner with her) and spent an hour looking for her before calling 911 (which suggests that the break in wasn’t all that obvious — if her patio doors were smashed in you’d think they would have called immediately). I would think she has all the tracking llle Google home and Apple Watch so this is really odd that they don’t seem to have more data but maybe that’s how they are getting “didn’t go voluntarily”.

I’m one of the Tucson posters and much as I love Tucson there are some serious crazies there. For instance, a couple of years ago there was a doctor that got murdered on Snyder because someone was mad he was driving too slow. For a small city, it seems to have more than its share of weird irrational violence. I don’t know if it’s because it’s a relatively low cost area, so people who are sort of marginally employed and mentally not all there’re can kind of float along for a while with a series of minimum wage jobs, combined with the fact that you can buy guns super easily at your local strip mall.

Anonymous wrote:That article says she can not even walk 50 yards by herself and has limited physical mobility.

The family was notified when she didn't attend church as she always attends. I wonder how she normally gets to church given she barely walks - someone must normally pick her up?

It says the house has a number of cameras so the family should have been able to check that?

Maybe "didn't attend church" really means she wasn't there as expected to be picked up, and no one wants to put undue pressure on the identities of her regular rides and the church she attended

There are free radical crazy people out there right now. My one theory is that they are those who haven't yet been picked up by the jet stream of this administration which was supposed to propel them into their rightful superiority and they are mad

But overriding that, is that there's someone who's historically or somehow now angry with SG

Tucsonan #1 again Yes - it is common knowledge that she lives in that area, agree it makes her a potential target.

Yes- she has other family in town. Samantha Guthrie grew up here in Tucson (or at least, attended high school here) and went to U of A.

There is no reason the mother would be inclined to move. The rest of the family is here, and it is a popular area for snowbirds and retirees given the weather.

Obviously Samantha would not be able to do her job from Tucson.

It's very different these days in the age of all the apps with cameras, though

Signed, Grandma in her 60s

Back in the older days it was literally just letters and still pictures and phone calls across state lines that cost money per minutes

Now photos can be posted online in a hot minute

It is really different

I don't watch the Today Show but sort of know who she is

It sounds personal and that there were signs that she was dragged out of the house

No word on anything to do with her phone or any medic alert devices she may have had

Maybe a crazed fan, this isn't the way to have a Ka-Ching $$$ moment for anyone even remotely sane.

Savannah Guthrie isn't a political figure but she is very attractive and someone her own age who is mentally ill may have acted out. Maybe the mom wouldn't let him date her daughter decades ago. Or something. IdK and do not pretend to know.
